If I get something - LET ME KEEP IT

I was just on POE and was attacking an eidolon with a pickup group. It was my first time actually fighting one and making any headway. Sentient cores were raining down, and I got a couple flawless cores, too. It would've been enough to level to the next rank with Quills and start on my next tier amp.

Then, right in the middle of the fight, I was suddenly back in my landing shuttle animation, and then the "free roam summary" came up.

All the cores I had picked up? Gone.

This game is already an oppressive grind - if I lose hard-won progress because another player bails or something - that's just too much.

sorry to hear that happened. rest assured, you are not the first to lose a lot of progress due to something out of your control, and you won't be the last. this likely won't be the only time it happens to you either.

I will admit that the initial grind for Sentient Cores is pretty brutal, I started by just farming Vomvalysts until I got my first amp, and even then it took me dozens of fights to learn how to Capture an Eidolon. the best you can do is try to find a group with a good connection that's willing to help, and then pray to the Wi-Fi gods that your connection doesn't fizzle out. host migration is the one thing Tenno fear more than any grind!

on your end, you can check your ping Limit and MTU settings, as long as they are reasonable you know it's not you, but others. if you feel confident enough to do something Solo, I would recommend that as well.

Thing is, this is something DE just needs to fix. It isn't acceptable, not when the game asks so much of its players in terms of investment. I'm sure there's ways of keeping a record of your loot in a cache or something so you don't lose your stuff due to technical shortcomings.

As someone who has been having seriously awful crashing problems for some time now that they have been trying to suss out, I probably understand the frustration of this stuff far better than you do.

But I'm realistic.

If it were as easy for them to do as you say, they would have done it by now. This game is P2P, and that creates limitations.

You going to pay for dedicated servers?

The irony is that what is he/she is asking for is... uhh... something that could be done in P2P without any dedicated servers. It's something that the game already does for bounties and Void fissures.

Be more realistic... not every solution to bad P2P multiplayer limitations necessarily requires servers. Posters aren't necessarily always asking for that. Yes, servers would be great! We're not going to get them. Find another solution (because some of them already exist in the game!) and fix this system that - when it fails - fails players very badly!

All you can do is make sure you are the host.

The good news is eidolon hunts are still relatively popular, so if you go looking for a group in recruit tab, people know the fight inside and out. They might ask you to play specific frames and use coordination but you can watch youtube videos on it.

I'm not a computer tech guy but I know you are nslay. Are you telling me you don't think that DE would've already attempted such fixes? I mean I question their ability to balance the game, add meaningful new content etc but surely they have tech people competent enough with such things that they would've at least tried this?

But that's just it... some of these safety nets already exist in the game. DE already has such schemes in place for bounties and Void fissures. DE even implemented a way to rejoin your team and reclaim some of what you lost (which is way cool when you're not playing solo!). These things are not complete fixes, but they're sure more graceful than losing 100% of EVERYTHING you were doing.

I'm sure DE can do it. They've done some of it before. And they keep changing and trying to improve network code (like recently messing up the network code with one of the recent patches)... so who knows if they got anything planned!

If they haven't succeeded in the last 6 or so years, all I'm saying is don't hold your breath.

As a player who stopped playing Destiny as much due to having my money taken away into a "revamp vault", this probably won't get fixed. Universal vacuum in regular missions has been a topic for years, but never actually got implemented. Either they think this problem is to insignificant to care or it makes their higher ups more cash.

Actually, No they don't.

From what I've gathered, the programming team at DE has only a single Network Specialist who could theoretically handle that, and hes pulling double duty as a general programmer; the rest are more graphics and content focused.

and reworking the client-host system to have client data redundancy would be huge. Not dedicated servers huge; you could do it all with existing infrastructure, but still a huge undertaking.

more than just one overworked guy can handle, especially when there are more visible updates to keep on top of.

Notice that with each new update, we get story, items, some graphical updates, bug fixes; ie: Data and Scripts, but the Core Engine is always untouched. They're still basically shoehorning stuff into the same old engine they created in Dark Sector days. Too far invested with spaghetti code to even think about changing anything that deep.

The good news is sentient cores will be easy to get later on. You can easily get hundreds of them in one night once you start hunting tridolons. So it's not like missing a vaulted warframe part or anything like that. It suk, i know, but you're not missing as much as you might think. I'm cheering you here, buddy.

This early, you can get plenty just by killing vombalists solo on free roam. Risk free, cuz you're running solo.

============

Funny story, just yesterday i hunted tridolon on pub. Immediately as harry dies the godam host left squad. After migrating i can still pick up the cores but i couldn't find any of the shards.

Was that a bug, or a known troll? If hosts can intentionally deny others of their shards by leaving squad at the right moment, gotta say It's a pretty mean troll.

The reason this happens is because the game writes rewards to your account on mission completion only. Whether or not you get a mission complete screen depends on a few things, but in general is only when you return to Cetus from PoE in this case.

I personally feel that this should be changed. Rewards should not be linked to mission completion in this way for open worlds, but always be written to your account with a flag that they are removed if you actively fail by dying. This way you understand if you lose the rewards, but you're never screwed over by technical issues.
