Does loot disappear over time?

So i was farming alone with Hydroid for Galliums in Ophelia, Uranus and pretty much what i did was to rely on the tentacles to kill all the incoming enemies. I wasn't moving much, so i just left all the loot dropped from the victims of the tentacles lying around until my oxygen levels hit low, and i realised that sometimes when i waited a little bit too long before collecting them, a bunch of the small life supports disappears like *poof* and its all gone.

Does loot on the ground disappear overtime? Or is there a maximum amount of loot that can exist in the tile?

There is a limit on how many items are in a level at a time so the oldest ones are removed it that limit is exceeded to accommodate for the new drops.
