Lotus Is Running A Finance Scam On Us (Half-Joking)

This is based on something a few weeks ago in clan chat among the Spacebattler Tenno folks.

Consider this - for the most part, warframes and weapons can only be bought by platinum. This suggests that platinum is the thing on which currency is backed up by (like how the US currency is backed by the US gold reserves at Fort Knox).

But why is it that for the most part, the credits the Lotus pays us for doing missions can't buy anything from the merchants? Why is it that we mostly use those credits at the Foundry, forging our own gear?

Platinum makes sense, since it carries intrinsic value, and would be accepted in the black markets. Why not credits?

Potentially, either the credits the Lotus pays us with are severely devalued due to inflation....

...or the credits the Lotus pays us are not the credits used for interplanetary trade between Corpus and Grineer, but for internal use among the Tenno only. Company scrip, not hard dollars.

tl;dr: Corpus and Grineer pay Lotus in "real" credits, Lotus pays us in monopoly money. (Or Warframe money, really.)

(This is a half-joking attempt to justify the Market. :p)

Credits are the warframes "normal money" used by all factions.

Plat can be seen as a "mega rare resource" thus has no money value to match it but is worth another item of equal value, "a free slot, built weapon with a potato". However similar to guildwars 2 where in game money can be used to buy gems (equivalent to plat in this game) it is possible though not likely that credits would be buy able with credits via market. But this is highly unlikely.

  • 2 weeks later...

Something my mates pointed out in the new Alad V cinematic: bidding on the Tenno leftovers starts at three million platinum (if you look at the icons carefully). That's without the core components that are going to the Zanuka project.

If we're worth so much, then surely you can give us better pay, Lotus!
