Warframe: The FPS

Quick story time: I was doing a steel path incursion for that sweet steel essence. Figured I would mindlessly mash WASDE keys for a few extra minutes to get an acolyte to boost my steel essence gain from 3 to 7 (yay for login resource booster!). Discovered something interesting: At a certain place in the Jupiter Sabotage tileset, the camera bugs out and you can pretty much get a first person view if you get the correct angle. See below!

Kind of cool to see a first person view in Warframe! Gives me early 2000's FPS vibes, I think I have some old games to play again :)

Anyway, thought I would share in case anybody found this FPS view funny / interesting.

I really can't stress enough how much i want a FPS mode in warframe. Screw corpus lichs, melee gun balancing, duviri and whatever else comes next, give me FPS warframe and I'm happy.

Imagine 1st person view in conclave...

to anyone dismissing motion sickness concerns, or saying the parkour "will be fine" in first-person, you're only saying that because you never played GTA V in first person: spend five minutes doing regular combat rolls or falling off motorcycles in first person, and then get back to me: you won't be wanting first-person mode anymore, and warframe has WAY more movement than GTA ever will...

And you're only saying this because you've apparently never played any other FPS.

In most first person games, the camera does not follow the character's eyes 1:1. To use Halo: Reach as an example, the Evade ability causes your character to do full flips and rolls when viewed by other players, but all the player using it sees is a slight dip in their viewpoint's height. Overwatch does the same with McCree's dodge ability.

Games like GTA V and Mirror's Edge are the exception, not the rule.

Yea we definitely need DE to build a FPS version because 2 people want it. Screw the new war or any useful fixes to the game.

It's something that has been asked for many times by many players over the game's lifespan, so your attempt to dismiss the request kinda falls flat. You're also assuming that the addition would take up a massive amount of dev resources, when I personally would be happy with hiding the Helmet model and putting the camera where it was (something which has already been accomplished through glitches, by the way).

What's many player? 5? 10? Where's the survey? If you're going to actually counter the argument you should back it up. Your use of "many" falls even flatter than my obvious joke.

Sometimes I play Loki just to get that FPS feel.

Unfortunately, FPS mode is nearly impossible to implement at this point. There is no way DE is going to adjust cameras(ie: cg_gun X/Y/Z for Quake) and weapon models to fit first person view for all 300+ weapon models, and at same time creating that issues for every future weapons.

FPS Warframe would be no different than Quake... 🤷‍♀️

We've already had bugs that placed our viewpoint inside our helmets, and it looked fine aside from the clipping (which can be easily rectified by hiding the player's helmet from their perspective).

It's not that simple. For a game to look like a proper FPS(Battlefiel, COD, etc), the gun position, camera angle, projectile appearing position, and many other factors need to be fine tune individually for each weapon. That's why for those FPS games, each gun has their own set values. It is not simple as switching from 3rd person to 1st person camera.

For example, in WF every weapon is different size. The variety of weapon size go from sidearms to heavy launcher. They would all need to be adjust or the heavy launcher will just block the view, while the small sidearms make screen looks empty. There is also texture and animation issue. Some weapons texture just look terrible close up. What about reload animation? What about the weapon floating motion? There are tons issue just from weapons.

Outside of weapons, there are also WF issues such as each WF is different height, the view points also need to be re-consider. FOV will also make some weapons models looks disoriented. Many other factors to consider.

I am not against the idea, but if you look at everything that DE needs work to get FPS function properly, its not worth it the effort. Unless the FPS mode you suggested is completely nothing on the screen, hiding the WF and no gun model, only showing crosshair. Then I could see it happen in technical aspect, but it would look really poor. Might as well just do what I mentioned early, go play Loki imaging poor man FPS.

It really is though. As I said, we've had a glitch that made what I suggested playable in-game, and the results both looked and worked just fine. Even the larger weapons didn't overtake the screen, and honestly, the models don't look nearly as bad as you suggest.

Seriously, I don't know what's so hard to grasp when I say "I'd like a slightly tweaked, optional version of this thing that has already been shown to work".

I actually made a post about first person, how things might work, and at the end i have a video showing the closest thing i can get to first person.

If you want to check it out, here it is.

if your brain could handle the sideways camera roll on bullet jump and 360 rollercoaster on double jump

I'm pretty sure the camera would continue to follow the target reticle, and not the Warframe's physical head, for parkour maneuvers. Considering the acrobatics are cosmetics that going 1st-person would remove, any solid camera specialist would take mercy on our poor souls.

You might be ok with half ass work but your opinion doesn't represent the entire community. Just look at OP's pic, a quick glance I can already point out the wrist looks funny, and gun looks too far stretch out. Also this is a static picture, do you even know how well it look while in motion?

If you go to the Art, Animation, and UI section, you can see people complain about all sort of issue with color, texture, clipping etc. Unless each weapon is individually added and adjusted to fit the FPS mode, its just going to create more issues.
