Warframe Modding Survey + Results

Hiho everybody!

Last friday, I shared a survey about modding in Warframe.

Today I want to show you the results!

But first up: If you haven't participated in the survey, then why don't you do so now?

More data is more good. I'll start updating things as soon as I get some more responses.

Some of the questions could use some more nuance. Like the 0-5 scale "how good is it" instead of a yes or no. For example:

Quote

Are you satisfied with the build variety for Warframes?

Build variety for Warframes is certainly better than guns, but it's not perfect. Instead of "yes" I'd have chosen "somewhat" if it was an option.

Or like, "should Rivens be removed". No, probably not, but they should definitely be made less problematic. Same with pure damage mods: they shouldn't be removed, because we'd just use the next best thing. Improving modding means improving how we approach modding, which nerfs or removals won't do. So to those I'd have answered with "it's complicated" if that were an option.

Quote

What level should a properly modded weapon be able to clear?*

Is it "What level can a properly modded weapon clear?*" or "What level should a properly modded weapon ought to be able to clear?*"

(Thanks as always for doing these 😘)

I agree on this one, I hope future surveys takes it into account

A fully modded weapon in a normal mission without crazy modifiers. How far should it take you?
Should I edit that question to make it more clear?

Which "should" is what I meant. Should can mean "can" or it can mean "ought". Whether something is possible vs whether something ought to be possible. Like, an Archgun can probably do lvl100 if it's a good weapon and properly modded, but IMO it ought to be able to do the same lvl200+ content as any other class of weapon. ETA: I answered assuming the former, that it was asking about the current capability and not what I think the capability should ideally be.

I am interested in collecting opinions, not testing knowledge.

1-5 would've been better since 3 would be more neutral

I prefer not to use 5-pt likert scales if I can help it. People do prefer to have a neutral option but imo it has a negative effect on the quality of the data.
The neutral value becomes the default option for participants that are less interested in these questions.
Replacing the neutral value causes them interact more with questions.

I mean both ways would be opinions. People's opinions about what various weapon classes are currently capable of is just as important and interesting (if not more IMO) as their opinion about what different weapon classes ought to be capable of. In the latter case there's no reason I can think of for one class of weapon to become obsolete before another, so I'd have to update my answers to that question to all be the same "200+".

the question about forma used in new weapons is a terrible question. If i enjoy the weapons ill forma it til i can fit the basics. if i dont enjoy the weapons by the way they play by the time they max out i dont even potato them much less forma.

Yeah, there is no typical amount - I Forma until the build fits. If it fits after 2 Forma, I invest two. If it only fits after 8 Forma, I invest eight. No half-measures.

Couldn't have said it better, I'll keep formaring until the build fits as well.

Indeed. Some weapons have a lot of polarized slots to start, and some use status builds or something similar which tend to be less costly. So you forma until you can fit your ideal build for that weapon.

That's where you go down to your local $2.00 dollar shop and pick one off the shelf.

Seriously though.

I'd say it's maybe limited to the basic mods and what mods you have to make it work at minimal.

That was the impression I had as well, but it's versus Optimal Builds?

🤔 This is working off the idea that if a mod isn't damage/health increasing, it's value is less?

I'm not sure where I'd choose on the scale since it feels like different things are being compared

Budget builds are focused on making gear work with as few Forma as possible while optimal builds aim to get most out of a weapon/Warframe, no matter the cost.

Like a generalised build, where it's easy to swap mods out without worrying about cost-increase, versus specialised builds, where the build really only works with a handful of specific mods?

"What level content to I want properly modded weapons to be able to clear?"

versus

"What level content do I observe properly modded weapons being able to clear?"

Other than that one question being a little unclear, I think it was a decent survey.

I, too, got a bit confused at this question:

What level should a properly modded weapon be able to clear?*
*level as in mission level without additional modifiers

But seeing your response here cleared most of it up:

Perhaps you can consider adding "Ideally, " to the front of the question?  But another thing that gave me pause was the fact that not all weapons perform the same out of the box.  So is it "what level should every properly modded weapon..."?  Or is it "what level should a properly modded good weapon..."?

At any rate, always love your surveys!  Keep up the good work!
