Yareli and the 'anime' coin confusion

Nothing says ' unnatural flesh killing machine run amok that killed it's overseers, who then waged a remorseless bloody guerilla war on every faction then and since - simultaneously - for a thousand years with incalculable loss of life ' ...
...like a kawaii drenched anime magical girl frame blowing water hearts and flashing a peace symbol, then splashing her toes in invisible water and clumsily slipping off her floaty.

It is so far from the spirit of literally every other frame and can only be viewed as a focus group theme pick to boost players in certain markets at any cost to existing property. I know DE chooses some weird stuff, and has fans of the genre with varying levels of rabid, but this is literally grafting on a cartoon limb onto the body of lore, themes, and style warframe has spent years building. It's almost like a caricature of a frame designed to diminish the lore as a whole to make it more accessible to people that don't care about warframe and just want so much cute they're gonna explode in confetti. ( For the record, there's nothing wrong with cute overload, but it's not Warframe )

DE, you are building in the aftermath of a storied ancient empire betrayed by space ninjas, and you just wrote a chapter in rainbow crayons. I respect the technical execution, look askance at the concept of a child frame but acknowledge it could be made to work with sufficient backstory and iteration as it does with Nezha, and am shocked and mildly repulsed by the complete clash of game-versus-contemporary culture and fracture of immersion you've presented with Yareli.

I'm not going to apologize for a burgeouning dislike of this entry into warframe even before it has finished baking in the foundry solely on the demerits it presents in design direction being driven by pop culture pandering. Unfortunately, this is one of those situations where you've added a pink giraffe as a mount and now cannot go back, which is what your players were telling you before you made it canon.

Didn't really know people hated the animations aside one mention in random thread since from what i saw people reacted positive towards design and animations.

Her design fits in game pretty well it's feels like a of branch of the aquatic aesthetic of ivara prime. Not sure why a frame that's slighty anime design is so triggering in the game when there's ton of Japanese influences sprinkled about the game.

I like yareli's design mainly cayse i can finally use a astolfo color scheme i cooked up since nezha doesn't have the right color regions to make it work

Listen y'all. Limbo is still sitting at rank 13 in my arsenal because I can't stomach looking like a magician for more than 15 minutes at a time.

There are much bigger asethetic problems to concern yourselves with than Yareli being cute!

Pretty much, yep. People seem to turn a blind eye to aesthetic deviations that don't bother them personally. Like, how many lingerie-looking skins do we have at this point?

How is any of it? Wars aside, the Warfame universe seems to a place that welcomes diversity and encourages self-expression—with the exceptions of the infested and some other players (coincidence?!?).

Besides, all bets were off the moment they gave Rhino that cod-piece 😛

The first thing that went through my mind when they revealed her association with the Ventkids was that Yareli was probably created using a fairly young person as the base with the intent to put her to use as a guardian for Orokin children.

She stands out as an oddity in Warframes grimdark theme, but i personally like that she does. Makes her stand out a bit.

Did not think on how she was first created but makes sense. Add in a tenno who also cares and makes a active attempt to help their lives improve when she's not fighting and.... ya got a mix ready for her.

Dear OP, the Warframe community often has literally nothing else to do in their life than question and nag about basically everything. While also acting if x item makes it to the game, the game is doomed to fail.

Don't take these comments serious, it's been like this for forever now.

I know just erks me how they are fine with one side of the coin but not the other side. Or how they praise some consepts like dad bod's but hate a cheerful theme.....

A small handful of people take games too seriously and literally. They think it's a human with morals and personality, hence why they think warframe "changed" or "is acting different" because Yareli was added.

They're not any different than old people that can't understand rap because it doesn't fit in the theme of what they feel music should be on moral and cultural level.

If I'm reading this right..... true. She is a bit of a different frame in behaver then the rest.

Not joining the hate on Yareli, but I'm going to disagree on this one line

Ash, Garuda, Nekros, and Stalker really don't draw anything from "anime". Garuda might have a Buddhist name but she is based on Elizabeth Bathory, a Hungarian serial killer. Nekros isn't much of an "edgelord," he's a necromancer from Dungeons and Dragons. Stalker is based on French folklore (yes, the Revenant warframe is named after the same thing). Sevagoth is Davy Jones. Even Ash, the literal Japanese ninja with a shadow clone attack, really... really doesn't come across as "anime" to his fans. I'm not quite sure why. Might just be the lack of Naturo-running.

They all attracted edgelords, but DE weren't edgelords when they made them

Fair enough, and agreed. I mention how they where edge lords though in their design (to me they can easily fit the bill) and where examples and all.

That...... is a very good point, yet the only hate I see for him largely is his kit, not his looks.

I don't mind it one bit. It's quite refreshing actually. Then again I colour my warframes pink and violet lol. So I guess let the whiny blokes whine?

Agreed and lol righto. I suppose they will regardless.

Guess I just kept finding all the sour ones when ever I looked. Some comments even called her a discount Nezha.
Agreed they don't mind one side of the coin but suddenly hate the other side.

Fair enough.

I feel like people are complaining just because the anime theme. Nezha is designed to be feminine and cute too but no one complains about him.

Is a big part minus her kit.
True.... like another pointed out, we also have Limbo's design which does not fit the WF theme if ya think about it.

Never mind other details one can find when bullet jumping up a vent on a rescue mission o.o..... one of Octivia's skins..... details where ya would not expect to find any lol.

People who aren't personally bothered by it don't care that it's an aesthetic deviation. Same goes for the Eros Wings, same goes for the swim tube, same goes for skeleton boi, same goes for Yareli. DE seems to deviate from the core aesthetics as often as they follow them, so unless someone's personally bothered by the latest addition, it's just another thing in Warframe.

The only animation Yareli has that I truly dislike is her dismount animation.

The reason being is because it breaks the flow of my game "when" transferring from her 4 to melee.

All other K-drives allow me to go instantly from riding into a groundslam without any delay just by aiming at the ground and hitting my E.

The rest of her animations are fine by me and even appropriate to how I feel the warframe would act.

As far her resting animations that you can assign to her appearance slot... I don't really use those on any warframe as most of them just feel ridiculous.

Not entirely sure how to word it so this might be a tad blunt

I don't understand the hate towards Yareli and her animations. I keep reading how she's too anima or does not fit warframes design style yet most of the time its either her states or.... just her bubbly happy feel. Is a positive emotion on display not linked to morbid or cruel intent so terrible?

We have the edge lord crew, Garuda, Stalker, Sevegoth, frames no one had a problem with design wise even though they do quite easily fall into the other side of the anima coin. We have Xaku and Grendal who don't even really fit warframe lore at all in how a frames made/created/designed. No one looks at a 'dad bod' and thinks "That's a good super unit design." after all.

From what I can tell Yareli is a frame designed to appeal to the children of the Orokin era. Bring some joy to the young minds with how she behaves and in general be a pleasant yet deadly when needed asset. A super hero for them to look up too they relate and understand. She might be a bit silly here and there like when she summons her board sits on it then falls down when it poofs, this easily fits in with her appealing to the little ones she likely was designed to operate around. Sevegoth was not designed with handling or being around children, nor is Garuda, though all in general designed to still be killing machines however with different mission profiles.

Garuda, demoralize the enemy, Sevegoth, basically the grim reaper/rescue in space/void space, Yareli protect children while forming a bond with them and give them a bright point in a world of death and gloom.

Her states are another topic though. Her animations.... I don't see the problem with considering whats already in the game some of which has been for a long, long time.

Why is she so bad thanks to this anima thing when edge lord frames are very much a thing in both WF and anima, or why she does not fit the design theme of WF when I watched most praise DE for the creation of meat ball dad bod Grendal?

1: nobody fears the dad bod until they hear that shotgun @#&$

2: “would you like a soul pop children? My stan- shadow can get a few.”

3: Garuda is great for children how else you expect them to learn how to make fillet and chop suet

If you want someone/something to be a guardian to children, mobility and "spinning blades of death" do not seem like sensible powers to give them. Running away and slashing everything around you sound like really bad ways of protecting targets that can't run very fast and will try to bunch up around you. A guardian would be more focused on targeted attacks and area denial - see Protea.

And if you want "bubbly" animations - there are ways of doing those without completely breaking the theme - I would say Wisp's ones come quite close to that.

Yareli is clearly just an attempt on DE's part to appeal to the wider Asian market (same as Zephyr's deluxe skin) - I just wish they tried to keep it within the game's theme (like Wukong and Nezha).

Speaking of... did anyone else notice that Yareli's story was really close to being a copy from Nezha's Leverian (with the exception that Nezha could actually handle himself in a fight)?

Nezha is also borderline Jesus and the blades would presumably act as a barrier and during one of the comic panels a saw her throw one like a glaive. Sea snares are perfect for protection and she would presumably use the k drive to get from place to place quickly or move a target quickly. And riptide is good for telling those pesky kidnappers to piss off. Also every warframe has been clapped by that one crackpot enemy unit at least once

You literally are describing why some people hate her animations so much and her personality and even her design, her in-game story doesn't tells you anything relevant other than she was the inspiration for K-Driving and that she wasn't good at fighting, other warframes in their stories fight against multiple enemies(leverian/codex) but she couldn't even 1v1. That is. It would have been better a story from the orokin era told by the Leverian rather than the comic book which was really bad IMO since it didn't told us anything new, we already knew that she was the inspiration for K-Driving.

The warframes that you are mentioning at least have a story or have more to do with the lore than Yareli. She feels more like a cosplayer doing silly posses rather than an actual warframe from all the descriptions that the devs gave about her.

She was supposed to be the funny kid friendly frame that helps children and looks rad while doing it. Not to mention that grineer dude could have been stronk. I’ve been playing with yareli and I can say one big string grineer dude could easily clap her and anyone else provided the right circumstances. Also note all yareli had to defend her self was water and a bubble gun aka the kompressa

People will cry over a warframe giggling and flashing peace signs but dont bat an eye at Wisp wiggling her massive dump truck ass constantly.

(Also Gara has flashed Peace signs since Plains of Eidolon, so if you're worried about the "lore" breaking, it happened a while ago.)

Case in point:  Are we seeing the "Cash over Content" effects of DE being bought by TenCent?
"DE... you WILL create a warframe that is so "cutesy" that it will reel in a new generation of very young players

More friendly warfarmes, less cringy  edgelords frames, yes please !

"Friendly warframes?"  🤣
Living machines of DEATH DEATH DEATH who kill for the sake of Space Mom's instructions even after she betrayed us?
Semi-Sentient Space Ninjas crafted from living metallic goo who will kill whoever pays the most and switch sides depending on the reward?
I mean sure.... these Dynamic Device of Death DO certainly like their pets and play with them every.... er, pet them... um, monthly perhaps?

Friendly?  🤣
I will at least concede that "Beautiful Looking Warframes" is a solid concept.  Thats why we have Tennogen, and as we all know Fashion Frame is Endgame.

Nonetheless, regarding Yareli I think what is SERIOUSLY needed here to balance this out is that Sevagoth or one of the more Emo frame's animations should be FREE for players so they can help Yareli feel less like she forgot to take her meds.

Otherwise, buoyant, jubilant, peace-loving murderer Yareli needs a half-black, half-red Skin with blond pigtails and a hammer weapon shaped like a Baseball Bat.

Not all guardians need to be blood-thirsty edgelords.

She may have been designed to fight the Sentients, but that doesn't mean she NEEDS to be a murderous maniac.  Her Tenno, after all,

Spoiler

IS a child

...and perhaps just wanted to protect others, maybe even with a smile and a happy emotive dance...  Why is that "against the lore"?

Oh ffs, we don't need 100 copy/paste edgelords. It's fine that one breaks the mold now and again.

1. A small, childish "Magical Girl" would be off-putting, and perhaps catch enemies off-guard.  A valuable advantage.

2. Just because they're all fighting a war doesn't make them blood-thirsty monsters.  I know MANY real-world vets who fought in wars and are SUPER sweet.

3. Stop with this "Is wArFrAMe SelLInG OuT!?" nonsense.  The game is still free. Yareli is still FREE.  If you don't want to use her, don't.  If you want different animations, use a different animation (you CAN do that, you know).
