Maybe A Bit Of An Overhaul Is Due For The Alert System?

Okay that was a crummy image. The first one is a screenshot of what an Alert currently looks like. The one to the right is slightly tweaked. Wasn't sure how to get the point across best.

First, I'll explain the motivation behind the suggestion. Events are fun. Alerts aren't that fun. (The rewards are nice, but the Alerts themselves are just normal missions.) The idea with this is to turn them into mini-events and to make the star map a bigger character in the game. (Using some lore-based justifications.)

Here are some of the lore-bits we get as justifications for Alerts:

  • Clear resistance
  • Contaminate research data
  • Corrupt robotic archetype data
  • Corrupt the facility's network protocols
  • Deactivate shields
  • Defeat enemy defense forces
  • Destroy comm station
  • Destroy enemy base defenses
  • Destroy enemy facility
  • Destroy munitions stockpile
  • Detained research scientist located
  • Disable security beacons
  • Disable navigation beacon
  • Distress signal located
  • Enemy assassins located
  • Enemy asteroid facility located
  • Enemy diplomat located
  • Enemy escorts located
  • Enemy informant located
  • Enemy munitions officer located
  • Enemy officer located
  • Enemy recon unit located
  • Enemy research scientist located
  • Enemy security forces located
  • Enemy spy located
  • Enemy turncoat located
  • Enemy weapons trader located
  • Experimental ballistics facility located
  • Fugitive located
  • Hold out for reinforcements
  • Locate and acquire robotic archetype data
  • Mining research station discovered
  • Mining station discovered
  • Network vulnerability detected
  • Plant a bug inside enemy facility
  • Protect sensitive data
  • Relic hunter located
  • Repel enemy attack
  • Research facility ambush
  • Sabotage enemy research facility
  • Tenno distress signal
  • Tenno operative located
  • Unknown distress signal located
  • Upload counter intel to enemy satellites
  • Weapons depot discovered
  • Weapons research facility discovered

The biggest goal would be to expand upon those lorebits, and to tie them into a bit of a metagame in the same way that events do.

Locating individuals, for example, might involve playing a bit of a scavenger hunt across multiple nodes, with people in Region sharing the location of the target once they've been found. (When the individual you're locating is in the node you've selected, you would have a hidden capture objective. Promoting exploration and junk.)

Holding a position might involve filling a bar as a community, where success results in the alert item being mailed to our inboxes. (Like the first event, the Fusion Moa extermination event, but on a much smaller scale.)

When you've located an enemy turncoat, you could click the alert node and be presented with a choice. Kill the defector for his faction to receive a reward, or shelter him and receive a separate reward, kind of like the battle pay mechanic in the last event.

Essentially, the idea is to add more engagement without having to add entirely different game modes by using the community's own desire to turn things into metagames. ...Basically.

Love it! Always up for more lore, and event like alerts sound awesome. I've recently started going into alerts for fun... since I don't have much else to do anymore... sort of acting out a mercenary for hire. I'd love if they added some more interesting things to them.

long story short turn alerts into mini-events which would require larger rewards for them cuz people dont do half the alerts now since the rewards are crap. love the idea tho!

I don't know about that. I loved the Corpus rewards so very much, but for the sake of playing to the lore I played exclusively for the Grineer. Letting people play to be a part of a story can add elements of engagement which just aren't present when grinding ordinary missions. Of course, balanced rewards are important as well.

Thanks. :U

Yeah, the last thing I want to do is a bunch of @(*()$ rescue missions on Eris/Pluto and it's Infested, all for a tater/forma. No tater/forma is worth that hostage AI over and over again.

Also, nothing more like the last event, please. I was burned out on the last few missions for a tater/forma, I just hated it, I had already qualified for the Tier 3 reward. Even now that event practically turbo-charged my burn-out of this game and I have very little desire to even complete the current Orokin Reactor reward, the 24h alert one.

You wouldn't have to worry about an entire planet turning into rescue notes. The idea is to stick a hidden rescue sub-objective into one of the missions and add an extra reward to that mission if you can complete the sub objective.

As far as burn out, I don't think you have to worry about that. I only meant that people would get to chose how they want to handle their mission.

or maybe later on every now and then one can be a minigame or something maybe make up a guy that likes to test people by giving them questions about warframes lore or some simon says type thing instead of running through and shooting things like we do for the vast majority of the game.

basically what i'm saying is every now and then we could have an alert where we could unwind and do something other than shoot every living thing in sight i think i could live with that.

EDIT: or maybe have the guy randomly show up only on alerts and if you get his questions right you get exclusive mods? he'll be like the stalkers brother? i'll call him... the questionaire! xD
