Opinions on Orb Vallis (Fortuna)?

Recommended Posts

Compared to Cambion Drift, Orb Vallis feels boring and less interesting imo. I don't mind the bounties, I'm talking mostly about the activities like fishing, mining and farming environment resources.

Mining can be buggy sometimes (dots not appearing or animal companions getting on the way), but on Vallis specifically they're rare compared to the other landscapes, mostly found inside caves or near their entrances. Fishing can also be annoying, with short 6min warm cycle and ocasional bug where the lure+dye being thrown on the hotspots not spawning any fish at all. Resource caches are usually found inside caves or near the outposts.

On the other hand, Cambion Drift is quite the opposite, in most caves or any part of the surface area, you can easily farm environment resources, fish and mine at the same time, you can get bonuse drops on Requiem Obellisks while you're at it. Fishing here is definetely less frustrating, you can easily respawn them by just walking a little bit and returning to the hotspot.

That's just how I feel about Orb Vallis atm. What are your thoughts on the state of the landscape after the release of Cambion Drift?

Next to the elevator, there are crates. 50% of the time they drop resources like Venus fish parts or Venus ore for free.

🤔 Haven’t really compared them regarding ease of resource acquisition. I like sliding down the mountains of Orb every so often and Riplining around Cambion Drift, though. Cambion’s a little too rough to slide down mountains in, so Orb is where I go if I want to do that.

Also Orb feels cold and Cambion feels smelly and jungle-warm (not sure if it’s meant to)

Orb Vallis feels pretty empty. There is a bunch of stuff that could be interesting, but nothing has been done about it since release. For example, we can capture Corpus outposts, but it does nothing beyond adding more (of the same) bounties. I would like DE to return there and add more interesting activities eventually.

What I meant is that, in comparison, there are more resource 'caches' in Deimos than Fortuna, making farming faster and more accessible.

What do you mean? I assume you don't mean literal caches, those only spawn in Sabotage missions. Do you mean Maprico Trees/Thermal Sludge containers/Vitrific Outcrops?

I personally find resource acquisition on Vallis better than Deimos in every way.

Mining and "breakable" resources are pretty much the same on both. Fishing is far better on Fortuna due to always being at most 20 minutes off from a warm cycle while Deimos can have you wait for up to 100 minutes for Vome's. While conservation is more of a preference as Deimos does offer the occasional free Predasite/Vulpaphyla but their other animals are harder to catch vs Vallis creatures.

Only real difference is the Deimos Obelisks and bounties offering alternative ways to gain a mix of most resources. It is a combat alternative for those who don't like the other activities but in my experience they're way slower than just going right after the resources.

Yes, my bad for calling them caches. I feel like CD and PoE are pretty generous regarding these resources.

Plains and Vallis seem about even to me. Remember which resources they each have:

On Plains it's grokdrul, fruit, nistlepods, and iradite. They spawn all over the place at random, with only grokdrul spawning in dedicated zones (grineer bases)

On the Vallis, it's mushroom spores, thermal sludge, and tepa stems. These have about the same number of spawns as in the Plains, they just spawn in dedicated areas: thermal sludge in bases (like grokdrul), mushroom spores near mushrooms (which are everywhere), and tepa stems at the entrances of caves

Cambion is the outlier here. Their resources just spawn EVERYWHERE and drop far more per container than the equivalent ones on the other two

Love the place, but it's really under utilised. Places like the  crashed Orokin orbital arrays for instance. Outside of the odd K Drive race that goes through there you have zero reason to visit or learn about them.

it's a good looking place with potential, but not much to do. I'd add a few more things to Orb Vallis, and the other open worlds as well:

- turf war system: instead of just accessing bounties, capturing Outposts would now give a large amount of Solaris standing, and Orb Vallis resources. the Solaris would also operate in this area now, giving you access to the vendors to buy stuff (but things like gilding and making modular items still ahs to be done in person.). eventually though, the Corpus would send a large force to retake the outpost, which you must help the solaris defend in order to keep the outpost. you can take as many outposts as you want, but the more you take, the more frequently the corpus will attempt to retake them, and may attack multiple at once. those who are looking for a fight with the corpus can go on a reclamation spree, whilst those just wanting a base on the Vallis can continue to keep one or two outposts without being under attack constantly. this same system could be added to the plains, and Cambion Drift, and make it feel like you're making a difference, if only temporarily.

- random events: void fissures, a sudden Thermia fracture, a Corpus training exercise with special Raknoid units etc... random events really help add a sense of life to open maps, and these purely optional encounters could be taken whenever, and give some resources and standing rewards. on the plains, you might catch ghouls being planted, a grineer hunting party trying to poach the local wildlife, or a prison camp where Ostrons are being held captive. the cambion drift could have random Corpus/Grineer patrols crash and ask for help to defend and escort the survivors to the Necralisk where they will be safe.

- hire miners/fishermen: considering how many people don't like fishing and mining, I think it would be a good idea if, perhaps upon capturing an outpost, you can hire an Ostron or Solaris to go and fish or mine for you; you pay them some credits or resources, and after a period of time, say 30mins, they return with fish and gems: mining spots are kinda random but in the case of fishermen, you could tell them what fish you need, with rarer fish perhaps taking longer to acquire. essentially they would work like Resource Extractors do, only you have to talk to them in a captured outpost and pay them, but it's worth it because then you're not having to do it yourself if you don't want to. nobody to help on Cambion drift though, unless maybe you could get Son to whip you up a friendly infested creature to catch fish for you?

- invasion missions: that's right, Grineer and Corpus would now start launching attacks on open worlds too. as always you can choose to aid the invaders or the defenders, and combat takes place in and around a location on the Open World map. if the invaders claim the territory successfully, their own camps will start appearing in that location, and will appear in all instances of the open world, so there would be some repercussions for everyone. you might also see patrols skirmishing when they meet each other too!

IMO these additions would make the worlds feel a lot more lively, where something is always going on, and there's always opportunity to get some rewards!

They cared too much about size but ended up being empty in most places.

Honestly they could cut the area into quarter of its current size and pretty much nothing of value would be lost really.

Literally stumbled just a few days ago on one of the broken giant ayatans... Had max rep with both Solaris and ventkids...

Personally i judge OW based on how goergeus they look. If they look nice, then i enjoy them, regardless of gameplay. If not, then i steer clear of them.

OV is, by far, the most beautiful map, for me, especially the interiors of caves and Corpus outposts (neon-synthwave lights are dope af)

CD is way too red for my tastes and tires me out being there, unless its "night", or im inside a cave with cooler colors, as opposed to the warm, "cranked up to 11" pallete of the outside.

The plains are just good ol' nice looking for me, especially recently.
