Trade Chat is way more hostile and competitive than I remember.

So a while ago I came back from a very long break from the game (about 2 and a half years) and before I left I spent most of my time farming Prime Parts and selling/trading them in trade chat. So I have a huge backlog of old relics and frames. So I have spent most of my time since then farming old relics to complete all these old sets and then selling them on the market at a bit of a discount. But ever since I've come back I have noticed that Trade Chat is competitive to the point of hostility.

For example last night I was advertising one of my Nekros sets for 180p alongside a few random Rivens I have. A guy contacts me about the Nekros set, invites me, and we trade. No drama no haggling. Just a clean deal. Nice right? Well apparently not. I get a message from someone as I am leaving the dojo that says "DON'T TRADE HIM THAT SET!" and I'm like "What?" and the guys just says the same thing again. And then I tell him that I already sold it. I then get a party invite. An actual Playstation Party invite not a Warframe one.

Now I am a pretty chill guy. Pretty laid back I think. This dude was not. He was out of his tree. This guy yelled "YOU STOLE MY SALE!!" at me and was literally hyperventilating at me when I got into the party. Apparently the guy who bought the set from me was in the middle of negotiating with this guy for the set he was selling. But the guy saw that I was selling for way less and bailed on the deal. He is trying to sell for 250p, but the guy talked him down to 225p and apparently was gonna get Nami Skyla parts as well before the guy up and left. But not before telling the guy that he found a set for sale at 180p.

No big deal right? Trades fall through sometimes for a lot of reasons. It happens right? Well apparently not to this guy. He looked up the price and found my advert and then invited me to the party. He just lays into me about how I was intentionally setting the price so low to get a easy sale. And I was like duh? Of course I am. I know what the set is worth, but I didn't wanna spend the next few days trying to get max value. I have 4 more sets to sell. If I tried getting the max price it would take me days in trade chat to get the 200-225p it normally goes for.  So I slashed the price to get it out the door quickly. Free market and all that. Plus it gives me time to actually play the game and not just sit in my dojo. The guy just goes berserk and talks about how it's people like me that make trade chat so toxic (as he yells and insults me btw, but that irony seemed lost on him) and that sellers should always try to get max value because if they don't it just makes things harder for everyone else. Blah blah blah. Just general angry yelling about trade chat. Calling me a scammer. He even suggested I somehow "owed" him something in return for "stealing" his trade from him. At that point I just laughed and left the party. It was getting too ridiculous.

I have been playing this game on and off since 2014. I have never had an interaction like that one before now. And the funny thing is it's not the first time it's happened since I got back. It was just the worst example of it happening. On at least 4 other occasions I have had people PM me about how I was selling stuff too low and that I needed to raise my prices. 3 of those people accused me of being a scammer and put me on ignore after I told them I was just trying to make quick plat instead of sitting around in Trade Chat. This is the same way I have always traded. I gave discounts in order to get sales for years and never had any trouble.

What happened? When did Trade Chat get this hostile? Has it always been this way and I just never noticed?

So you accepted a party invite from someone who just yelled at you in all caps, that's a red flag right there

Well he didn't say why I shouldn't have traded the guy the set just that I shouldn't do it. I was afraid I had just enabled a scammer or something. I wanted to know what was up. Normally I don't accept random party invites obviously.

Under cutting is the name of the quick sale game. You didn’t take anything from him. He let his greed do that on its own. It’s happened to me, and I’ve done it to others. It’s just part of trade in my eyes. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Absolutely. It's always been that way. But I had never gotten angry messages or party invites over it before I came back.

It just feels way more competitive than it used to be.

I would also accept the party invite to understand the problem...

Sometimes people can warn you about bad things, like scammers, dirty plat or stuff like that (was not the situation here, but can still happen).

Only "toxic" moment I've had in trade chat is from riven sellers, surprise surprise  right?

Got told not to "sell rivens in their trade chat" blah blah "have 300k plat" blah blah blah. Sounded like a child whining.

Yeah rivens in general have ruined the game in my opinion, but I didn't really want to get into that in the op.

They are great for balance and for pushing unused weapons to the front, but they have turned every single person who tries to buy and sell them into just a parody of themselves. Everyone thinks they're riven no matter what it is is worth hundreds of platinum and if it is even slightly okayish then they're asking a thousand plus. And then when you try to point out that they are way above the mark for what they have you either get put on ignore or you get accused of being a scammer. It's embarrassing.

Also they clog up trade chat and make it basically unreadable.

It is more aggressive than I remember, well in my experience it's more of a lowballing aggressive than aggressive aggressive. The other day I was trying to sell my Rhino Prime set for a quick plat, I set my price at 90. Pretty fair right? I think it's pretty fair. Then came some high MR player messaged me with an unpleasant offer, nothing much else said: 30P?!!!?!!?!?! Shocked, I asked him back, "Good sir, I'm selling you the full set, not in pieces". He even went lower (and I quote exactly what he put in there), "20 !" Of course I declined, as politely as I could "sir I'm sorry I can't go lower than 90. It's already lower than most prices you can find". He didn't respond for a good 10 minutes, I assume he gave up. Nope, in comes his response "fuk u"

I mean really?!

I've never met a good samaritan in trade chat, just ones lowballing for rivens and get mad when you say no and calling you names. warframe.market is the saving grace

I also came back to the game recently (couple months ago) after a similar 2 years break. Quite frankly I feel like the community as a whole got a lot more aggressive/toxic or however you wanna call it. It's not only trade chat. I've seen similar situations in public missions, and here on the forums as well. It's not as bad as some other games, but that old super friendly WF community seems to have changed at least a little in the past couple years. You can even see it on how the community is a LOT more hostile towards DE.

I mean like did after that 2 and a half year ignore function stopped working for you or what?
Someone farted in a room and you instead of leaving that room in search of fresh air stay in that room calmly sit to complain about bad air in there
Logic?

Too long; didn't read. Much.

Also, we've been here before.

What's amazing to me is people get so bent out of shape over trade chat shenanigans. I suppose we have a lot of younger folks that aren't used to dealing with other people in private sales. I'm used to this stuff, since I've dealt with private sales in The Real World quite extensively. I guess it's a matter of growing a thick skin and a low tolerance for BS.

When you deal with others, you will run into squirrels. Once a potential negotiation starts to go off the rails, you either restate the parameters to get things back on track or walk. You'll do a lot of walking. It's not worth the lost time dealing with squirrels. The OP seems to have run into a squirrel who had issues with his pricing. So what? You walk. If the guy can't leave it alone, then /ignore and drive on. There'll be others and I certainly don't care what one person thinks about how I price my stuff.

From my experience, those who who spend time advertising in trade chat are simply desperate for some quick plat. It tends to have the side effect of making them very aggressive as a result. And sadly, you can’t do anything to prevent it. It’s sort of the “trading experience” I’d say. Just move on, block them, and be glad you have more self control than them.

I haven't traded in a few months but the complaints of selling "too low" is old.

I had that a few times back when I played on PC. In one way it was handy because I would make a sale from the person complaining but the toxicity when I would go on to sell more of the same item at the same price got ridiculous.

Other than that there's the issue of people initiating a trade in the relay just to sell me their trash only to get mad when I cancel or tell them I'm only selling.

Trade Chat is what happens when you test out Raoul Silva's rat trap from Skyfall:

Quote

One summer, we went for a visit and discovered the place had been infested with rats! They'd come on a fishing boat and gorged themselves on coconut. So how do you get rats off an island? Hmm? My grandmother showed me. We buried an oil drum and hinged the lid. Then we wired coconut to the lid as bait and the rats would come for the coconut, and... They would fall into the drum. And after a month, you have trapped all the rats, but what do you do then? Throw the drum into the ocean? Burn it? No. You just leave it and they begin to get hungry. And one by one... They start eating each other, until there are only two left. The two survivors. And then what? Do you kill them? No. You take them and release them into the trees, but now they don't eat coconut anymore. Now, they only eat rat.

I am surprised people can actually keep track of anything in trade chat (yes I am aware the filter exists).

I make it a point to avoid trade chat , and for that reason I rarely meet any aggressive or toxic trader. Warframe.market takes care of all my trading needs.

But I know some of my clan mates have had similar experiences , the issue is that a few of these "traders" think they are playing some sort of trading sim game and that's how they get their dopamine fix, by closing deals at optimum prices and anyone who is not playing the trading sim is apparently a "scammer or disruptor".

But I will say that the amount of aggression is more in recent years.

Funny story, your stuff your price, anyone doesn't like it? too bad, every once in a while you'll get a market price "specialist"   that knows everything but still seems desperate for plat, just ignore those and carry on, in some situations you really have to be the Rick and not the Morty ( ignoring them is not rude it's necessary) and that's all right.
