Are sentinels other than Helios and Carrier still worth building/using?

Question

Been using the Panzer for a while now, and I can't seem to go back to using my old buddy Helios Prime aside from scanning purposes. Some people also mention that Carrier is still useful due to ammo casing. But other than that, are they worth bringing? Are they good enough as supplementary DPS or are they only good for utility? Because really, my Panzer is more than capable of dealing lots of supplementary damage, and I don't have to worry about him dying because he will eventually reform back, and his utility (loot radar/vacuum) is pretty much all I need.

What do we do with sentinels such as the Shade, Wyrm, Nautilus, etc? Are they just there for MR fodders?

I've got *almost* all of them, and there are all usefull :

+++Carrier : As you know bets with Ammo casing, ammo conversion and ammo reload (one lest mod to install on your weapon)
+++Dethcube
: Vaporize is the fastet and strongest sentinel attack. Better than any weapons.
++Diriga
: Zapping make melee easier. Best with Loid and Otak Skins
++Djinn
: With reawaken mods, djinn always come back ! Best combo with melee fight and spare parts mods. his Gazal skins is a must have !
Helios
: The Photograph, no need to present anymore
Nautilus : haven't used it yet ^^
Oxylus : You love fishing and capture animal, must have ... you don't, pass your way
+++Shade : We are ninja, a spy mission with shade (normal / prisma) is always good... a spy with deth is... huuummm you know -_-
Taxon : Not very usefull because shield recharge is not part of my tactics
++Wyrm : One of the best anti-Crowd and the simpliest of all... you don't like crowed place and hordes of ennemies on you. Wyrm IS you bets friend

I will tend to say that the "best to have" are Carrier, Deth and Shade plus one CC between Wyrm (repulse), Diriga (stun) or Djinn (attract). And Extra are Helios or Oxylus.

Carrier is nice if you havent unlocked exilus slot for ammo mutation on.
Nautilus has grouping tool, though its kinda wonky and tries to move enemies through walls
Dethcube has Vaporize and Energy Generator, and everybody except Lavos loves energy orbs
Djiin is immortal like Vulpa, but dies whenever something sneezes at it
Shade need rework, but Ambush can make some sweet damage spikes for few seconds
Diriga stun is nice for melee
Helios scans and puts weakspots
Wyrm has own space program
Taxon can make overshields
Oxylus for open world fishing and scanning plants for Sacred Grove farming

Djinn is pretty useful.
It has the immortality of course, but its assault mod also has really long enemy engagement range, so it starts shooting at enemies sooner than most other sentinels.
Its other ability also provides bit of crowd control, which is always useful even if its not the best.

1. Carrier is usefull for more then just ammo case. No one so far seems to know or appreciate https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Looter

In fact, I never used carrier for it's ammo case but have and do for it's looter. More resource gathering is always nice afterall.

2. Deathcube : Energy generator = a nice constant flow of energy as long as there's enemies. Particularly usefull on frames that are big energy drains. Will safe you on lots of energy consumables.

3. Djinn : https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Reawaken

True not as high damage as a Panzer but considering that for a Djinn you have your 8 mods + the mods of the weapon you give it, there are several ways you can make things happen (synergies) that aren't nearly as possible with a panzer.

4.  Oxylus ; can be a nice utitily one depending for either fishing (innate highlighting of hot spots + no need to drop dye) and  https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Botanist if you want to collect the necessary items to get a shot at a growing power. It's scanning ability is fabulous and it often will scan plants 30m away that are barely visible even when you are 1m away.

5. Helios is still nice to take out in new areas to collect the data for the codex but alas they nerfed the possible mods you can put on his Deconstructor.

https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Detect_Vulnerability

That mod is a nice idea but if you have to rely on that to make it thru a level then you should really get some better weapons or mod your weapon better.

In short, most of the sentinels are really nice utilities and can be very helpfull depending on what you want to do.

Are they META? No.

But frankly I want to have fun. META isn't fun, because if you follow the meta your just doing the same thing as the thousand other players, with the same weapons, the same mods, the same builts. I for one rather try something different. I like to mix it up.

If prime regen can't keep your sentinel alive, then perhaps it's time to change the mods your using on your weapons, warframe, sentinel, and/or time to throw another forma on it.

:)

Helios puts weakpoints on fully scanned enemies, increasing damage they take. Oxylus passively scans plants, which is great qol. You'll never have to manually farm flowers for nightwave challenge:-) It also marks fishing spots on minimap. Dethcube gives you lots of energy. Other i don't really use. Shade sux imo, Carrier is kinda useful for breaking boxes. Extra ammo and mutation is not that  useful, I've not run out of ammo in years.

Last but not least-build Nautilius if you haven't already. Not for the sentinel itself, it's kinda useless. But the weapon you get (Veriglass?) is essentially Glaxion Vandal. It's THE strongest companion weapon. My 5 forma build with no riven makes any sentinel exuiped with it reliably kill enemies up to and including SP.

  • Carrier has been pretty much obsolete for quite some time.
  • Helios is unique in Scanning so it remains useful forever.

Djinn has value by virtue of being able to resurrect.
Diriga offers some decent CC. Wyrm offers some semi-decent CC.
Dethcube stays relevant via Energy Generator. Vaporize is also passable.

RE: only speaking to their functionalities, not generic EHP Stats. which at higher Levels are of limited benefit anyways.

Helios as a melee companion got nerfed, and Carrier has been bad for a while. If you have to use a sentinel because your frame can't use beast companions, then IMO Deth Cube and Wyrm (with their Simarus augments) are the only ones worth using.

Diriga’s single-target electrocution doesn’t sound that good, but it will save you from a very common cause of death at high levels: you missed an enemy, and they snuck up behind you and whacked you while you were concentrating on something else. Diriga will shut them down for you. Also, free electric proc for Condition Overload.

I only use Dethcube out of all mentioned because of Energy Generator.

If a weapon needs Carrier to become usable with a sustainable ammo-economy, then that weapon is trash imo..

Helios, i would only use it if there's something new worth scanning, otherwise Smeeta or Adarza it is.

One thing i forgot to add... Oxylus actually has a niche where it's best. Mod that shows far away crates on the minimap every minute or so. Helps a lot when looking for sabotage caches or syndicate medalions. Let's me know if there'a a side path that hid from me and urgently needs the attention of my Limbo/Xaku lootbomber;-)

IMO, since Helios can no longer give you Gladiator set bonuses via Deconstructor, there is no purpose for Helios other than scanning new units. You don't need Helios for anything anymore.

With that said, IMO, these are the most useful Sentinels (and only these ones, the rest are gimmicky novelties)

  • Djinn -- Doesn't die and can stay alive longer than Vulpaphyla (because it's forced to follow you and not wander around with not-smart AI).
  • Oxylus -- Scans plants

Carrier is cool, but with Exilus weapon slots, certain Arcanes (e.g. Arcane Pistoleer) and certain abilities (e.g. Energized Munitions, Lavos/Protea abilities), you don't really need Carrier for anything ever.

If that's what you only need and your panzer gives it to you then... don't use it.

I'm running Carrier (prime) 99% of the time. Aside loot radar & Vacum I have regen (on wall dashing), ammo mutation and crates destroyer. For me it's essential companion features. For you it may not be necessary.

I'm Nobody (fixed it so I can create puns).

It's bugged (slow and don't destroy some stuffs at  1 time) but if someone isn't running some explosive weapon, slamming or destroying stuffs using frames then it's helpful.

With Botanist it can help you scan plants (for Earth specters or Helminth) if you are lazy and just running missions.

If you want some rarest plants then you may scan it manually because Oxylus won't use 2x scan chance mod from Symaris. Why? Because everything should be worse... it's still something.

you attack and your cloak goes "puff". Plus it has timer, afair.

Apart from the utility specialisms, nobody has mentioned that they do a lot of damage nowadays - ever since Nautilus came out (its meh, but maybe those long, long, long holokeys farms its useful) it has the Verglas weapon. Its awesome. Stick cold on it, and tough enemies slow down and then die with so many status procs, the rest just die. I watched it kill a steel path Nox once, just stood there and watched its health bar drift to the left (took a little while, but the old sentinel weapons would have taken days, not tens of seconds)

My current go-to is Dethcube Prime with Verglas. As sentinels go, it's a reasonably tough one, and the energy orb generator from Simaris is a nice bonus. On console, Wyrm Prime was my go-to, for Negate. And probably will be, again, on PC when I get all the parts for it.

Once I capture a Panzer Vulpyphyla, that might take over the companion slot. But for now, my robot pal still survives most Steel Path missions.

Probably to contribute towards making Oxylus worth building 😋 (was not aware of this mod, and now I feel like building Oxylus)

edit: 🤔 Though it raises questions. Oxylus deals with aquatic life, Helios scans enemies and objects. Is it like… Oxylus deals in indigenous life, like plants and fish…?

LoL.... Sadly that question is WAY above my pay grade 😁 !!! I ran out of Forma before I had a chance to build Oxylus properly...
