What is Nyx good for?

Recommended Posts

she's a great frame for drawing away Agro: I could take her to a Lich hunt, use her 3 and not have to worry about thralls shooting me in the back whilst I deal with the lich. I also sometimes enjoy using her 4 in defense missions: let the enemies come to me as I sit on the pod, then let them shoot the bubble and set it off once there's ernoguh damage. 3 or 4 times of that is enough to clear a defense wave: spawn limits are the only thing that would stop Nyx from potentially finishing an entire wave in one attack.

after her changes, I'll probably still use her for those same purposes, but might try a mind Control build to see what it can do with a Heavy Eximus unit. would be pretty cool to run through an exterminate with a roided-out Bombard Eximus watching my back lol.

I hate these arguements.

1. Wukong specter does not have auras that enemy Eximus an Ancients have and Mind Controlled target won't die until duration is over. Revenant targets can be killed by other players while Mind Controlled target can offer healing aura or summon allied Kubrows, Kavats or infested without risking it dying before getting chance to perform actions.

2. Okay, these warframes can strip armor or deal more damage... are rest of their kit CC oriented as well or is their role something else?

3. I do not always use Radiation damage or my weapons have very low status chance. Why are you even comparing wide range cc ability to status weapons anyway?

And nekros? 7 more of that. Hard to kill, diversion, distraction, division, cripples the enemy, certain enemies give buffs to you and your allies, good damage. You don’t rlly need NYX when you have this

2. It depends on the frame.

3. Neither do I, but since when could a damage type do the same thing as a ability?

THEN AGAIN, it’s a arguement of preference.

Nyx is actually a fairly underrated 'frame, she's usually my second choice for when I want to just jump into any mission (with Gauss being my first).

It probably comes down to a playstyle preference and the idea that CC can't adequately compete with pure damage. This is generally true for Starchart content, but when it gets to levels 100 and higher, CC and support become far more valuable than pure damage, in my opinion. I've taken Nyx into Arbitrations and Steel Path and ended up outlasting my entire squad of Mesas, Inaros', Saryns, etc. or being the primary collector of arby tokens for revives.

I've found that Mind Control is actually pretty handy for controlling something like a Nox, Toxic Ancients, or, Drahk master, Psychic bolts are good for armour stripping and some CC, and of course, Absorb is an invincibility button.

I haven't done anything with Liches or Sisters, so I can't really say how good she is there, but it sounds like she's pretty handy for that as well.

NYX can last quite long and comes in handy but when it comes to camping or support in steel path or arbitration’s Harrow is top choice.

If you get mind control on a Hyekka Master it will kill everything, plus extra allies I think.

hmm I never thought banshee or NYX would be the lich killers… I’ll find out more later.

Yes ,that's it ! Very simple and deadly on every mission.

Nyx is really OP. People just need to learn how she works and how to build her.

From what I’m reading here I may be underestimating her 2…

Its actually the same case for limbo except NYX can’t troll.

Nyx is highly specialized warframe. But definitely not useless!

I used him recently to:

- Kill Necramech in Isolation vaults (Assimilate build)

- Strip armour on some bosses (Plague star etc.)

- Steel path

There was announcement on last DevStream that Nyx's mind controlled mob will be stronger and teleport with you.. Maybe I will start using Nyx more and more..

kind of disappoint about Nyx change from last Dev stream.
Passive probably needa rework or buff
Skill 1 , i would prefer , when you control a enemy , you will get a buff at the same time, like damage resist or atk buff.
like transfer those pain to your enemy.
Skill 2, i think its good, but increase the number to 8 , would be much better.
Skill 3 is useful , but increase the stun time would be better.
Skill 4 change should be the most useful change this time with Augment mod.

Nyx right now is good at CC (s3) and Debuff (s2), but survival and atk should get improve.

This is in response to the news of the impending Nyx buffs.

I dusted her off and re-modded her to current mod and Helminth status, went out and had a stab at some assassinations, liches and Steel Path stuff.

I used to take Nyx to Lich confrontations, but it feels a bit useless when solo now. She'll strip the shields off a Kuva lich but won't work at all against a Sister lich. Even when shields are down, she's still too squishy* against a lich rank 4 or above, especially against a radiation caster or a teleporter. I can do it without dying but it's a bit of a challenge. Almost any other Warframe seems much more useful.

Standard bosses, yes ok, she works but so do other Warframes.

Steel Path, she works but so do others. Steel Path Ropalolyst seemed a bit daft, no point taking her because she just doesn't bring anything special to the party, just lots more dodging and occasionally wiping enemies from the boss' stage.

She doesn't stand out.

She just doesn't seem specialist enough. A good general frame for general work against standard enemies, but something just isn't right.

I tried to imagine what she's like with the promised buffs, but the technical aspect still doesn't fit. Either the enemy is Nyx-proofed or she's too squishy to stand her ground after casting her bolts. You have to be extremely flighty with her, flitting around to get a decent shot off or hit'n'run with melee.

Maybe that's the key aspect, Nyx is a Warframe for the hit'n'run playstyle? I like to get in there and work with melee a lot, so maybe she's just not for me.

*I have maxed Umbral mods and other armour mods going on, adaptation and rolling guard, and tried switching out different augment mods. She's still too squishy for comfort. I had to keep moving to stay alive. I understand this isn't a problem for veterans used to this style of gameplay but I still think she needs another look at armour and base stats.

Base stats in warframe in general need a bit of attention. The base armor values of most frames is holding a lot of them back. To think, that with just making small change to a single value, how many more frames could be strong contenders.

And I promise, Mag having 200 base armour instead of 100, isn’t in anyway break the things that are already broken. Like what happened with SP arcanes and galvanised mods.

If we look at their whole kit then I rather choose Nyx for her armor stripping powers and better distraction abilities.

Mind Control VS Shadow Of The Dead? Nekros wins.

I want to stay quite and look like i agree with you, but honestly, each ability have their perks.

A good MC target like a bombard with high mind control damage multiplier will guarantee you they're going to kill something, the Target is immune, doesn't loose health, and you can leave and let it die to get another one very quickly.

And with the recent changes, they'll teleport to you at no energy cost

Shadows of the dead are more for defensive/damage reduction approach, they draw aggro, but they cost lots of constant energy to maintain, and you can't dismiss one of them, you have to wait.

They get stuck sometimes, and you have to press the ability again to make them teleport to you.

They don't deal any damage on their own, and since Nekros can't Strip defenses, he can't help with that.

For Me, Mind control is definitely more flexible and versatile, and if players still think this ability suck, good for me because that means it'll keep getting buffed

Kill Necramech on Isolation Vault ! I almost forgot that. I use Nyx on Isolation vaults too. The best after DE nerfed Octavia's 1st against Necramechs. Thanks for reminding me. 👍

Definetely not useless at all.

Nyx 2nd is really great. It's not only armor, it's all the target's defenses. Everything goes out and you have just his red HP bas defenseless. A real joy for slash and viral damage type weapons.

You could troll with Nyx in the past (perhaps they changed it, does anybody know ?) : just put the last enemy of a defense wave under mind control, as it's invulnerable, nobody will be able to kill it (by the way, this was an old way to regenerate the defense objective shields on hard missions between two waves). It can really drive your squad mates crazy with an nerverending wave. 😁

You can’t really compare their whole kit as they are very different but for general use I agree.

Uh… does desecrate exist or no?

oh yeah yes it does.

Don’t worry about orbs when it comes to Nekros.

Ok let’s compare NYX to Nekros.

Passives: Nekros downright. Death heals him, who doesn’t like lifesteal?
Nyx: Less accuracy. Just get a blast weapon.

1. Mind Control vs Shadows Of the Dead.

Mind control: 1 lone immortal troop. It doesn’t die of duration like the shadows but it’s only a single troop. May as well have a spectre.

Shadows: a mini army, or a squadron of troops. Enemies like Hyekka masters, drahk masters, certain crewman or lancers can spawn drones, cover, or more troops, with a cap of 13 (at least for me). With good mods, they can last long, deal very good damage, weaken and cripple the enemy, divert, distract and divide.
Augment: Reduces damage taken to you and the damage taken is given to the dispensable shadows.

In my opinion, shadow wins. Preference though.

2.  Soul punch vs Psychic volts.

Soul punch: Very good for getting a tough target off your tail, at a lower energy cost than terrify. otherwise has no uses except for the augment or ragdolling for fun.

Psychic bolts: Armor strip and decent damage. WINS BY DEFAULT.

3. Chaos Vs Terrify.

Ver similar.

Terrify: Shocks the enemies to their rotten cores. Makes the enemies terrified of you and makes them run away.

THE BEST CC and a VERY GOOD Defense ability (since it will make all enemies run away and won’t hit you, your allies, or the Defense objective).  (In my opinion.)

Chaos: Has a very similar affect except it causes mass hysteria and panic across the battlefield. Enemies will proceed to attack random factions. Similar to radiation.

Winner? up to your preference, but I like terrify since it is more protective.

4. Absorb Vs Desecrate.
You can’t really compare the two but I’ll try.

Desecrate: Gives a unlimited supply of energy and health orbs, increases chance of more resources to drop as well. Basically makes you immortal.

Absorb: Absorbs all incoming damage and releases it in a nuke-sort of outburst.

It depends on the situation, but desecrate makes you immortal, and who doesn’t like that?

It’s up to preference but I like Nekros better.

I subsumed ensnare on her (instead of her 1) and I'm gonna use assimilate augment for sure. The 2 is good because you only need like 125% power strength to get 100% armor stripping, so you can mod for full range on her 3 which is great, it also helps ensnare for even more CC. I guess she emphazises gunplay more.

I put Ensnare from Khora on her 1. Works flawlessly and makes her a CC monster.

There is a bug where I shoot the bolts, they clearly hit, but they do nothing. Other than that, she is one of my fav frames, because she makes every fight super easy.

Nyx is an all round frame. Her arena includes defensive mission, i.e. mobile defense, defense, interception and boss mission, e.g. lich/sister, isolation vault, etc.

Nyx's biggest weapon is her 3 for area lockdown and soft CC. Given sufficient range and duration, you can finish an interception or mobile defense without firing one bullet.

Her 2 can strip armor and shield, and has the lowest energy cost and strength requirement (I am looking at you Xaku). Press 2 and enemies in front of you become wet toilet papers.

In the case of emergency, press 4 with augment to gain invulnerability instantly.

Nyx is severely under utilized only because Warframe is a game about efficiency and killing. Nyx is not a nuke frame or killing machine for sure, and requires certain playstyle.

I hate speed running mission. Instead I prefer to utilize my frame's abilities to engage enemies, the kind of person that will take cover when reloading my mighty k. Seer that sort of things. So I enjoy Nyx very much.

The upcoming tweak won't drastically change her style. If you just want to nuke the entire map in 56 seconds, go play saryn or something else. If you are looking for traditional third person shooter in a casual setting, or you are looking for a good fashion frame, Nyx is fun.

Fashion frame.

Everything else is people just overvaluing her abilities and ignoring the fact that almost every other frame does what she does but better.

Right......Xaku can armor strip, Revenant has mind control (7 enemies!), Limbo can CC......

But DE does not allow me to play 3 frames at once, so for the time being I will stay with Nyx thanks very much.

Nothing.

Nyx is supposed to be a damage returner, dealing damage with mind control enemies. 3 of her 4 abilities involve reflecting enemy damage or make them target allies.  Except enemies' bullets gib you instantly when they hit you but hardly scratch themselves when they shoot each other.

Or just Mind Control a Shield Osprey and watch the tens of thousands of defense objective shields regenerate instantly. I used this trick in the Grendel Defense mission... but with Revenant. And I use the trick in Aten, Void... the nasty 3x enemy damage Mobile Defense mission node where all enemies love throwing grenades all the time.

Firstly, this problem no longer affects enemies under control from direct abilities (and hasn't for years). The next Defense wave just proceeds normally. Secondly, a nastier version of the bug was due to Mind Controlling/Enthralling/Accusing enemies that create more enemies (e.g. infamously Hyekka Masters). Spawned enemies from controlled enemies are your allies and under mysterious conditions, killing the controlled enemy does not revert the spawned enemy allegiances (causing a permanent Defense mission lockup that you must Abort). Did DE fix the bug? No... it's still not fixed. Instead, DE now just automatically deletes permanent friendly allies after every Defense wave (it may not trigger immediately, you may have to wait a little). I guess you could call this a "fix"... but it's a workaround.

As a side note. When playing Revenant on Lua defense, be very careful of your thralls and make sure you kill them before letting the objective falls down. I am not sure whether this was "fixed" by the "deletes permanent friendly allies", but if one of the thrall stays on the top floor and you are at the bottom, and when they revert to aggressive, you cannot complete the current wave. The only way to reach the top floor is to use flying abilities of certain frames (titania, zephyr, etc) or by your operator void dash.

If they're friendly allies that are under Mind Control/Enthrall/Accuse, they will not be automatically deleted and you must kill them yourself. However... playing Exterminate and walking some hundreds of meters, you start to see previously-seen enemies spawn near you (a simple test, damage an enemy and then just keep moving and you will see the same enemy again later in the map!). You would think they would respawn the same way in Lua Defense, right!?

I only observed the automatic deletion happen for permanent allies that the game counts as "enemies" that you can't otherwise kill at all. This issue has been reported in Bugs forum so many times... I saw a permanent friendly happen in Grendel Defense and it scared me to death, but the game fixes itself now!
