Since frontends seems to respond, the backends must be overloaded. It is probably due to the amphiteater event that opened a truckload of connections server side which did not close properly when everyone got pushed back in their orbiter. And now, thousands of players trying to connect at the same time is just fueling the fire.

Before this gets too toxic, guys please keep in mind that DE's ISP, Rogers Communications, has been having trouble throughout all of Canada for an entire week already (they talked about this during Tennocon).  There isn't anything DE can do about it, so let's just sit tight and hope for the best...

This bears MUCH repeating.  Rogers's own connection problems as a company have coincided with Warframe's issues throughout the day (plus there was that like two day period where they were completely down across the entirety of Canada).  If Rogers is still the source of the issue DE can't do much about it on their own short of entirely switching ISPs, and backup servers would not help at all.
