Why do so many people dislike Lycath? "Because it's too on the nose"?

We have so many warframes that have "obvious" names

A smoke warframe named Ash

A sound warframe named Banshee

A flame warframe named Ember

A balance warframe named Equinox

A sword warframe named Excalibur

An ice warframe named Frost

A water warframe named Hydroid

A dimensional warframe named Limbo

A trickster warframe named Loki

A magnetic warframe named Mag

An illusion warframe named Mirage

A death warframe named Nekros

An antimatter warframe named Nova

An electricity warframe named Volt

A spirit-like warframe named Wisp

And a bird warframe named Zephyr

But a wolf warframe named Lycath? That's where you draw the line?

I didn't vote for any of those, and I'd toss most of them in a heartbeat. But thanks for asking. :P

I do like most of them more than Lycath though.  There's no real accounting for taste, but to attempt to explain it:  there's "on the nose" and then there's "on the nose but trying (and failing) to be cute about it while sounding like mush".  That's the way it strikes me, and YMMV of course.

But if it makes you feel any better I do feel the same way about "Hydroid".  Only thing Hydroid has going for it is it's such a bad, dorky hygiene product name it's kind of funny.

I get the desire to want names that are more subtly clever and whatnot. But I feel sometimes it's good to have some more obvious names. I say it depends on the warframe in question. There are quite a few warframes who I just can't see having a name aside from the references they have. Not counting the no brainer ones like Wukong and Nezha, there are ones like Atlas, who's name references the Titan burdened with lifting the earth. Or Gara, who's name is Japanese for Glass. Or Harrow, literally meaning to traumatize or torment. I still wouldn't call these subtle, but they're nice nods to what they're inspired from.

Then there are the ones who you need to do a bit of searching to get. Inaros, being the name of two pharohs. Ivara, based off the word Ivarr, meaning "tree warrior". Khora being a reference to the Greek Goddess of the underworld Kore. Mesa, being named after a common type of mountain or hill in the wild west. Or Nidus, being a word for nest. Oberon, king of fairies in medieval literature. Octavia, being named after an Octave. Saryn being named after a specific poison. Vauban being named after an engineer who lived in the 1600s.

I could go on and on, but the point I am trying to make is that a name that's a nice subtle nod is a great way to name your character. But, at least in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with being a little on the nose, either.

But we'll see what the community decides in the end, at the time of writing this, it looks like Voruna is in the lead with Lycath and Raksha being close behind. Whichever one of those ends up being the winner, I'm sure it'll fit our new furry friend.

Please select 1 name for the Wolf-inspired Warframe from the Poll

could you please put the information about  where did you get these name ideas ? Are they myhtological or historic character names or completely made up names ? Little bit of information would be much more decent for us to choosing

I was googling she-wolf or female wolf figures in mythology and came across the names " Asena / Ashina " in Turkic myths and " Sköll " in Norse myths. Wish one of them was an option, they sound alot cooler than half of the names in the poll.

Raksha, Dynara and Voruna are the ones that I liked. Voted for the first.

Can't wait for her release.

Honestly, I voted for Voruna, solely for the reason that I want to see DERebecca try to pronounce it.

Same reason I picked Ylva. :) That and it's one of the few that sounds cool and is neither cringy-obvious or obnoxiously obtuse/better suited to another theme.

Ulfra = I like the most, it sounds a bit nordic and gives it a more serious vibe while also indicating that this frame is a female wolf.
Voruna (Žvorūna) = The same as Ulfra just a bit less nordic while also indicating its a female wolf. Plus personally i like Ulfra more.
Fengarou = Mostly because in Greek this name comes from the word (Fengari) which means (Moon). So moon and werewolf, you get the point.

Lycath = I think this one is a bit too obvious. Its obvious it comes from the word (Lycanthrope) but i think this makes it a bit obvious its one. We already know it is one, do we need a name too to show that? I also think this name would better suit a male frame.

All the other names feel like they would go better on different other frames. They dont have that "Wolf" vibe.
Personal Opinions.
