sasha17102001
Wiki says "Tracked enemies will be visible on every player's mini-map, and each enemy will have a body part highlighted". I have 265% range. No radar mods on companion and warframe. Enemies in radius of 92.75m should be highlighted on map but it does not happen. I can only see enemies on map from base radar(30m). The body part highlighting seems to be working although. I tried in simulacrum and mission. Does not work. Steps to reproduce: 1. Equip Banshee with a range build (e.g. Stretch, Overextended, Augur Reach). 2. Enter a mission or simulacrum with enemies. 3. Use sonar and observe the map. 4. Notice that only enemies within 30m are highlighted on map, regardless of the sonar range. Tests: Simulacrum: 1. Banshee with enemy sense(+ 30m enemy radar)+non prime animal instinct(+30m enemy radar)+innate enemy radar(+30m enemy radar). So it should be +90m radar in total. 60m distance. Enemies are highlighted on map. 2. Banshee with 92m sonar. No radar mods. Sonar casted once. Same distance (60m). Enemies should be highlighted... right? But they are not. (i waited 15 sec so wave can expand enough) Missions: 1. 90 meters enemy radar revenant(just for easy test). 2. Banshee with casted sonar. No radar mods. There are should be a lot more highlighted enemies on map than on screenshot. Maybe i don't understand how sonar works, but in my undestanding all enemies with sonar effect should be displayed on map regarding of distance. But here we see that it displays only enemies in innate base radar(30m). Even if it works(i don't see it working although), it's useless and worse than radar mods. It really makes me sad because ability is so good and i was hoping to empty slot in my companion since it can highlight enemies. When testing make sure you don't have equiped radar mods in your companion. Edited March 2 by sasha17102001
Tiltskillet
In most areas the minimap only extends about 45 meters. So in a static environment, Sonar only extends range between the innate 30m radar and that upper limit. Although in reality, longer range Sonar will highlight spawned enemies in advance so that they show up once they're within ~45m. Not terribly useful, but it's there. Open World maps and minimaps are larger, so you'll get more value out of it on these. I think some other minimaps might be larger too, but I'm not certain. As an aside, I've always been curious if the effect on other players' minimaps still works and how reliably.
Hexerin
Spoiler Working fine for me. Have 280% ability range for this test.

Ha, well, it seems like you understand how it works better than I do. What I didn't do yesterday was compare it to radar mods, and doing that now I can see what you mean. While what I described is basically true, Sonar map highlighting is constrained by the edges of the minimaps, whereas normal radar highlighting is happy to mark things on my screen well outside those edges. Like I mentioned yesterday, it does work much better in areas with larger maps available like the Plains. Anyway, good job bringing this up.

You can see the highlighting gradually show up on enemies with distance. A fun way (well, it was fun for me) to observe it is to go to an open world map with long range Sonar and no radar. You can see enemy markers gradually popup on the map in an expanding circle.

I tested it on the Plains and now actually understand what you meant by Minimap edges that constrain the range to 45 meters. Still pretty sad because now we have innate Radar on every frame. And if you slap Primed Animal Instinct (or even non-primed) on your companion, you can see enemies a lot better on the map with any frame than when using an Ability with the name “SONAR” and if you use additional radar mods on warframe(I know it’s extreme though) it will be better even on Plains than max range Banshee. I hope they will remove the Minimap constraint so it can be actually comparable to radar mods. This constraining just destroys this part of ability in my opinion.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply Sonar was better than radar in Open Worlds, only that Sonar does better in those than it does on most maps.
