how exactly do status apply ?

Question

I have a weapon built for say electricity and viral (it also has some slash and puncture) and have 105% status

this guaranties every hit will proc one status, with a very slim chance at applying a second, right?

but I wonder will it try proc them in turn alternating? or is it completely random? to the point where its possible to get bad rng and have it proc electricity back to back ?

It would be a guaranteed proc at 100%, and then a 5% chance to proc another, and either proc could be any damage type your weapon has

Which proc you get depends on your damage balances. If you have a weapon that deals 10 puncture, 20 slash, 30 electric, 40 viral, then you have, for example, a 30% chance to proc electric, because 30 / (10+20+30+40) = 30%. If you want electric to proc less, then you would want to consider modding for higher values of damage types, which would of course likely proc more often.

Both your 100% guaranteed proc and your 5% proc follow the same rules in determining which proc it will be, but again, it's just the 5% affects the chances of it actually occuring in the first place

105% status chance means that you always get one status effect per hit, rarely two. The chances to proc them depends only on their respective distribution.

For example, if you have a weapon with 30 viral and 70 heat with 150% status chance, every hit has 30%/(30+70) = 30% chance to proc viral and 70%/(30+70) = 70% chance to proc heat, then you have another 50% chance to proc again. If it happens, that one proc has the same probability as before. Status effects are applied instantly and simultaneously.
