This may be a silly question, but if you were unable to even type the name in-game, then are you sure you had the search box selected?

 

If you are typing in the mod's name and it's still not popping up, ensure you aren't accidentally filtering it out. Sacrificial Steel is a melee weapon mod that uses the umbra polarity. Its normal equivalent, True Steel, uses a madurai (V) polarity. I'm wondering if that's why you're not seeing it.

Where exactly are you looking for it?

Does it show up in the Arsenal, or when you try to chat-link the Mod?

If the issue is just in the Mod station, check your Filters, to not hide anything they should look like this:
