Which Items To Go For?

Question

Is there kind of like a best path for, say, weapons? I've only started playing today, but things are becoming available to me now. I could make that first sword you get since I now have the mats and credits, or buy something with credits on the market (the dual swords, same name as the beginner sword, or the big stick ... can't remember the names and not in-game atm).

So, which to upgrade first and to what?

I only have the Excalibur to play with, not even sure how to get others atm.

There aren't too many wrong choices (you'll want to level most of the weapons up to 30 eventually, for Mastery purposes), but don't touch the Burston or the Furis as your first weapons. I would say the Braton, Furax and Aklato/Bronco/Lex (your choice) are where you'd want to go at first.

I've seen a vid on the Furax, and what they said was that it only hits what's straight in front of you. The same person mentioned that the Dual Skana (now I remember ...) can hit multiple targets. This is all I have to go on, though.

In chat I saw people talk about the Cronus and compared it to the Amphis (first has a higher ROF, second hits harder).

There, all the information I could gather. :)

Braton I kinda like, but I have nothing to compare it to and according to your list I don't need to change it anyway.

How do the Aklato/Bronco/Lex compare to the Lato? I'm assuming you mean this would be what it will be replacing?

Go with the Cronus. It's a pretty decent melee weapon, especially considering how early you can get it. Level it up and save your credits for something further down the track like dual heat swords or a heavy melee weapon. I like the Scindo, but my favourite melee weapon thus far has been the Amphis, so it's really a matter of personal preference. As for primaries sticking with the Braton is a good choice, sort of the jack of all trades. You could also go for a shotgun if you're inclined to, in which case I'd suggest the Strun, though I can't remember what Mastery level that unlocks at so it may not be an option. In terms of pistols the Lex is excellent, I never bothered with the Aklato or Bronco, though I've heard they're reliable. Keep in mind the Bronco is like a mini-shotgun of sorts, so it is more specialised than the others. It's really just about finding which weapons suit your playstyle more than anything else, and what you enjoy using. There is essentially no 'wrong' path to choose, most of the weapons are very effective once levelled a bit.

The Lex is accurate, reliable and has solid damage to boot. By the far the weapon I would recommend first.

Once I got it, it became my main weapon, until the Paris was released. As far as rifles go, I enjoyed my brief time with the Latron, but the MK1 Braton gets the job done far into the game. Melee wise, it's all preference. I'll push the Scindo if you're into heavy swings, the Cronus if you prefer a balanced option or the Fangs if you want stupid, off the scale attack speed.

If you have to spend credits, dont. You're better off leveling mods early. Keep your Frame and starting weapons til 30. If at all possible keep the amount of credits you spend on Weapons and Frames to an absolute minimum until you feel comfortable with your mods.

Why do you prefer the Amphis? On paper, the Scindo does more damage. Is it the armor reduction, AoE, or ... ?

They're benefits to be sure, but I've found that if you mod it correctly it's charge attack is what makes it absolutely devastating. Base melee damage for the Amphis is nothing special, but the speed of its charge attack is another matter. I've modded mine to increase the charge damage drastically, and decreased charge speed to the point where charge attacks take almost the same time as a regular melee strike. Combined with its ability to hit multiple targets and armour ignore, in terms of dps it beats the scindo hands down and enables you to wade through hordes of grineer/corpus rapidly and even compete against higher level infected. Having said that my Amphis is potato-powered at lvl30 and I've invested significantly in those mods to achieve these results. Basically, the Scindo is a better base-level weapon that is easy to mod and use effectively. However if you're willing to put the grind into the Amphis and max it out, it is one of the most underrated weapons and in the long run, far better in my opinion.

Holy cow, lovely answer.

Which mod lowers the speed of the charge attack? It isn't Fire Rate is it?

Haha thanks, hope it helped. And yes the fire rate mod only affects the speed of normal melee attacks. The charge speed mod is called Reflex Coil.

Yeah, FINALLY got a couple of them, so I'm at 40% charge speed now on my Gram. Once I get the mods maxed, I'll try out the Amphis. It's in the oven as we speak. :D
