Color Pack Idea - Metallic Classic

Recommended Posts

Hello forum! This idea was relayed to me by fellow Tenno, MisterGrimly, and therefore he deserves the real credit for this idea, he just didn't want to post it himself so I'm posting it for him. Grimly suggested the idea of a Metallic Classic color pack, which I think would be a big hit. The classic palletes seem sadly underused, at least from what I have seen, since the last 4 or 5 color packs were released, and this would also be a way to boost their popularity a bit again, as well as further add to the customization element of the game. Also, yes, I know some colors already seem slightly metallic on some frames, but only due to shines from light refraction. I'm talking about legitimately metallic colors here, that actually have a sense of glamour and glitz to them, colors that really pop(other than the neon infested colors) even in low-light areas.

I would also like to personally add the idea of a pallete of varying metallic golds, silvers, bronzes and grays/blacks, but that's my only personal input on this, again, the main idea came from MisterGrimly, not me. Please, Tenno and DEs alike, let us know what you think about this idea! Please keep this thread alive or maybe even pin it if a mod could! Thanks from both of us!

Sincerely, the aforementioned MisterGrimly, and myself, TheWebbliest.

They addressed sheens (Specifically metalic) in a livestream, or possibly even a forum post:

Basically, it's currently impossible, but if the coding ever works, it may become a possibility in the unknown future.

Edit: Tenno'd by Kinperor... Well played good sir.

I think that "Metallic" colors won't be released. Since there would be a major issue with the way that Warframes were made and their code.

As the person above posted, it was already mentioned by a developer about this specific topic.

This was suggested before. Good guy staff-member Draice said "not now" basically.

Definitely in the idea box.

Whoa I though the answer was "not because we want primes, vandals and wraith item to be the only ones with metalic feeling" (sort of).

draice did post on the forums saying something along the lines of

"we currently dont have the proper shaders for a metallic color pack,"

so there is your answer

Same issues that prevent us from making metallic colour pallets will apply to matte colours as well. It's something I will follow up with the Devs later on, but I don't see support happening for this within the next few updates.

It requires fancy shader scripts and material overrides, and will require a great deal of planning into making it extendable, so we can support various FX (metallic vs. matte for example), and it will need to be heavily optimized. I know that there are a lot of core game-play systems that are being worked on, which take higher priority, but I will bring this up with the Devs in the future. I'd like to put metallic colours on my Excalibur Prime too!

They'd have to do metallics as skins instead of as colors. That's how digital animation works.

The skin gives it the metallic shine / texture, and then the color on top can be used to denote gold / silver / bronze, or whatever metallic color you want from your existing color palettes.

OP, pretty much it's not possible right now (but metallic skins ARE possible). And your friend MisterGrimly didn't tell you that he got the idea from someone else, so no, he doesn't deserve any "credit".

Do you know him? Because if not, how do you know that? And you know it is entirely possible for multiple people to have the same idea, and think it's unique because they maybe haven't heard it from someone else, right? That's kinda how the Hunger Games was written, and people try to say it's a ripoff of Battle Royale. But anyone could make the same mistake, I suppose.

Anyways, thanks for all the feedback everyone, I had no idea this had come up before, as I don't cruise the forums much unless I'm reading new patch notes or checking out something someone I know posted. If this is the case, then I suppose this thread could be locked and moved aside.
