There's No Reason Not To Include "opt-Out Of Hosting" Option

I heard that DE is refusing to add an opt-out-of-hosting option because they're afraid there won't be enough willing hosts.  That is a completely nonsensical attitude! Nothing says the opt-out feature has to be absolute! If the game finds that all players have opted out of hosting it should pick an unwilling host. Voila! Problem solved.

An opt-out feature can literally ONLY HELP the game! There are NO DRAWBACKS!

Thereby defeating the point of opting out.

Not at all. The opt-out option will cause the game to prioritize willing hosts whenever possible. It will only pick unwilling hosts if there are no willing hosts left.

It would be better to just improve the system that decides who the best host is and pick them.

Yeah, you could have the game track in-game pings and un-prioritize hosts who have consistently low pings in-game. But you could also add an opt-out system. There's nothing that says you can't add both.

I would love this; Bad hosts have only earned me a Grustrag Bolt each on my Trinity and my Valkyr because it took forever to connect to the game, and, by the time I eventually did connect to the game, both missions had already failed.

Please DE, give us a better host system.

They said a while back that now the game picks best host. Which doesnt solve the problem if you have 4 horrible hosts but..... the game has to start.

P2P connections is always going to lead to crappy connections so there is little that can be done besides teaming up with people you know. As much as they try to fix this, this is just never going to happen.

But it doesn't!  I get picked as host almost every time and my connection is horrible.  I would be flabbergasted if their system even considers bandwidth at all.  I'll bet it bases your hosting ability on your computer's performance.

At the very least, on the ps4 version, it does not.  While it often chooses me as a host (oddly enough, I have one of the better connections among my friends), it will sometimes chose the worst host.   There isn't much you can do to upgrade your ps4 outside of upgrading the HDD.

When it chooses me, we generally have very little lag outside of people that live outside of my region who get some lag and certain void missions where I'll get the lag (but the others will be fine).

But then it will sometimes choose another player and the entire party will experience absurd lag spikes.

The only problem with being able to opt out of hosting is that it could be used to abuse certain glitches that are based on host/client lag.

(I'd personally rather have a system where you can freely change your status until the objective has been completed (For example, you might want to start with private or invite only and then after making sure you have the datamass, turn it to online so that other players can't easily troll you by glitching the datamass out of the map (and yes, that is possible-I'll see if I can post a video later)).

that's BS, I have my matchmaking ping set to 300, I once got connected to a host with 1200 ping! And I was probably the best host because everytime I host no one complains of lag

My guess is that the guy's ping was fine when you were all in the starting area with no enemies, but the moment you start fighting he runs out of bandwidth and his ping skyrockets.

Yes please.  This would be great for me.  My connection can handle one or two players if it isn't a densely populated mission, but a full group on something like def/md/surv is just not possible with my poor upload speed (damn you rural dsl).  And yet, for some unknown reason, the game has no problem choosing me as a host and will never host migrate while I'm hosting despite the severe lag.  This sucks because it means I have a whole bunch of Void Keys that I can't use because the matchmaking logic in this game is out-and-out awful.  "Chooses the best host at the start of the mission"...pffffffffffft: yeah, right.

I could have gotten a new Catalyst cooking in the foundry if it weren't for the game's tendency to constantly put me with players who seem to run on dial-up. Nearly every mission was a lag-ridden debacle, and I set my ping to 100.

4/5 Invasion missions for the catalyst, and it all ends before I could get the fifth.

This is ridiculous.

I also want to see an "opt to host" option, because I prefer hosting to joining. Less laggy for me that way.

I think an opt to host feature would be better than opting out, honestly.

With an opt to not host feature, you would run into the issue of no one willing to host. Also using the OP's suggestion of the system picking an unwilling host when all four players have opt'd out, you'd still run into the problems the player base is complaining about right now.

It's probably more programming to set up a two tier system like that as well, instead of the simple "I choose to always host" button.

I like simple solutions like that.

I think, they just need to fix the logic that determines whether or not you are a good host. Put up some minimum requirements for the PC and run a speedtest once a week - and if your machine is too weak or your upload is below a certain threshold, the game automatically flags you as unsuited to host a mission. To avoid the "no player in squad is able to host" problem, you could add different levels. Like, players with rating 1/1 (PC/connection) will be preferred over players with rating 1/2 will be preferred over players with 3/1 (because the best connection is worth sh*t if your machine breaks down due to too many enemies around) ...
