Xhos
So I heard that the Synapse was nerfed some time in U11. Is it true? Most importantly, should I get the Synapse?
Justin_Case001
Yes, you should absolutely get it. Probably still my favorite weapon. I recommend ye olde crit build.

direcyphre
Nothing really changed about it other than the damage numbers you see popping up, as well as the damage it shows on the stats. It still rocks just the same.
direcyphre
Comparison to Soma? Higher DPS, but a limited range.
(PSN)cmbailey2
They changed the fire rate from 100.0 to 10.0. It's still a good weapon if used correctly.

VKhaun
Higher DPS, but a limited range. That's all I needed to hear. This really assumes only one target. Soma with Shred hitting five guys down a hallway is going to blow away the DPS of a Synapse user who's not even in range of more than the first or second guy, if that. Synapse's only specialty is melting huge amounts of EHP off of bosses and special targets that you're not afraid to get close to. I think it's definitely worth having in your arsenal and certainly worth a few forma, but it is not, and never was, the be-all end-all 'best weapon' that people described it as when it was new. Darzk
This really assumes only one target. Soma with Shred hitting five guys down a hallway is going to blow away the DPS of a Synapse user who's not even in range of more than the first or second guy, if that. And Penta will wreck the Soma in multi-target engagements. But when building Soma for range, or with Shred, you ditch HCal and lose out on a lot of the DPS of Synapse. As stated, Synapse is the highest single target weapon (Not using +RoF), and the tradeoff is the range limit. Still a very viable weapon, but you gotta get up close and personal. Specifically, a maxxed Synapse does ~150k DPS mitigated by only 25% of armor against Ancients and Heavy Gunners in the Void. I have both, and I must say it is awesome to snipe with the Soma
Xhos
Right now I am doing Invasions to Mutagen Mass for the Synapse.
Naftal
Higher DPS, but a limited range. Not higher, actually slightly lower. But similar enough to not make any difference.
Darzk
Not higher, actually slightly lower. But similar enough to not make any difference. Yes, higher. Because the base damage converts to an element with +75% damage/armor ignore, while the Soma's base damage does at best ~+45% on average, with only an average of 20% AI. Also it has a 4x headshot multiplier, compared to Soma's 3.9x. Edited March 16, 2014 by Darzk
