I believe its a waist of mod slots to put elements, go pure crits, theres more mods to improve those crit numbers much more higher.

Also a question, heavy caliber fudges up the accuracy, is it noticeable? And do you actually miss-shoot cause of it?

from experience  find elemental to do more damage the crits although that just me.

also with heavy caliber you will notice the loss in accuracy but I can still get some long ish ranged kills

Never a waste to put elements... ever.

Maxed heavy cal is "accurate" up to ~15 meters, with lower ranks its noticeably more accurate.

For all of you who just called upon my bad advice.

What is the only thing that scales up no mater how strong the enemy gets? crits.

What are the best weapons and why? weapons whit high crits.

So yah, very bad advice ;)

Also not necessarily mean elements are a waist of mod slots, i mean I would rater put crits on this one, since bows are weapons with high crits they benefit from it. I obviously use elements in all my other weapons that dont have good crit numbers.

Post your non-elemental build.

Crits scale with base damage, elemental damage, crit damage multiplier, enemy resistances, and the head shot multiplier. Obviously this allows it to scale very high, but only when you're using it to it's full potential.

He already has 100% crit chance with point strike (so more crit chance would be pointless) and a 4.4x crit multiplier with vital sense. The only other applicable crit based mod he could use is hammer shot. 180% bonus radiation damage against heavy grineer who take +75% damage from it, critting with 4.4x crit damage + head shot multiplier, will do more then no elements (or a single element) and a 5.6x multiplier in the same situation (even taking the base puncture damage into account).

ok ok, they dont scale up, i meant its the only thing that keep giving you high numbers of damage, enough so you can face enemies at 40 and beyond.

Are you still a non believer about crits?

I know how good elements are, I just suggesting crits for this one, he can either go with my advice or not, don't really care to keep up this discussion.

The only real necessities are Point Strike and Vital Sense, which along with Split Chamber and Serration leaves 4 slots for anything else. In terms of raw damage, Hammer Shot is inferior to a single elemental, and Hammer Shot + elemental is inferior to double elemental. Hammer Shot + double elemental is also inferior to triple elemental (though you have to spread your damage types across multiple), and is also inferior to Bane + double elemental. The bonus is that you do get some status chance, which is nice, but in terms of flat damage, is inferior.

Unless you very heavily value status procs, Hammer Shot is at best a 7th choice mod, after slotting two elementals. That leaves it to contend with Heavy Caliber (highest damage, but lower accuracy), Bane (higher damage than Hammer Shot, but no status), a third elemental (higher raw damage, but your damage types are less concentrated, which could be good or bad), and Speed Trigger (utility dps).

So yeah, your advice really is pretty bad.
