Make Survival Survival Again

DE, can you return Survival missions types back to the first survival event. The mission where all players just spawn in a single large room, with enemies quickly spawning made the mode quite fun and more importantly, keeping it namesake, a survival. Currently, the mission type is just a grind to find enough enemies to make it fun, rather than the previous tense sense of trying to survive.

Most players play the mode to grind xp and keys, but since the RNG enemy spawn rate is strange, a team has to get lucky to get a decent fight going. But, as the first survival event showed, with spawns limited only to a single room, the fight gets larger and more constant, forcing a non-stop firing of weapons and casting of abilities. This is what made the mode so different and fun when it first came out, rather than the current standing of it greater self.

You have a great team, so I know you can rework the mode back into the original without the whole dying thing at the end to claim the rewards. Also, fix the time limit, as other games are trying to fix, the longer a match goes, the more chances of player rage grow since more time was invested. For example, capture and assassinate missions take less than 5 mins a piece. So, when nothing rewarding is found, it doesn't feel to bad. Now, the current RNG grind for Rhino P Chasis is truly painful. Running 20 mins for a Latron P Receiver is just painful.

The biggest key is focus. Please focus survival back into survival, rather than a run through empth rooms until you find a decently enemy filled room. Reduce the time for reward and just increase the difficulty to compersate for increase rewards. You already have leaders, so spawn more leaders are time goes on to dissuade tennos going long time runs. Also, you have some good enemies combos going, and should look further into it to add more difficulties.

I'm in favor of the event survival coming back. That was the most fun I've had in Warframe, it was really great to see how far you could go before the enemies overwhelmed you, and actually required teamwork to get to higher times.

tbh, i think they should have BOTH, survival with random generated map, and fixed single room.

btw, you sound like you have some trouble with comprehending how enemy spawn in the game (and in survival), it's important to learn which room have good spawn rates and which doesnt, the general rule of thumb is the more exits a room has, the more will spawn.

From a lore standpoint, it doesn't even make sense to let this mission type span across several tiles - who is to say we will not meet the Tenno Operative who is raiding the ship? Aren't we supposed to distract the enemy? Wouldn't it, as a result, be more befitting to let the enemies come to one room for maximum distraction (guards leaving their positions etc)?

I really wish they'd bring back the old Survival - it was way more fun.

I also loved the survival event, mostly because the sound of two boltors, a gorgon and a hek firing non-stop for an hour is a sound I will never forget. But it was also a real challenge because initially you had to kill enemies fast enough to keep the O2 flowing, but after 45 minutes or so the challenge became living long enough to pick up the O2 that dropped (bull rushing squads of entrenched Corpus Techs is a harrowing experience).

Even if the old survival doesn't come back something needs to be changed about O2 or enemy spawn logic. Maybe O2 drop rates could increase with enemy level so that after, let's say 30-45 minutes, you've got an 80-90% chance of getting O2. Now the challenge is to actually survive the waves of enemies and not hope to find enough canned air to suck on until Lotus deigns to send the next tank. Or Lotus tanks could drop at a consistent enough rate that hitting each one will keep you alive until the next one appears.

The challenge from survival mode should come from the enemies, not the air you breathe.

I'm not even going into the whole "running out of air on earth" thing...

It was a ton of fun. Especially when you've been there for a while and your map is nothing but green icons.

I'd like to add to this and say that I am disappointed when I see a big room with life capsules that have all but one exit closed... such a room will never achieve a good enemy spawn rate. The solution there would be to make sure all rooms with life capsules have every exit open up to another room, even if its just a dead end.

Even a room with 4-6 exits the spawn rate can be wonky. Spawn logic tries to generate enemies out of sight of players, so if you're hanging out by in view of a door that exit basically gets nullified. I did a void survival run once where at the 20 minute mark enemies stopped showing up entirely. When the team reached extraction we found four minutes worth of corrupted hanging out on the extraction platforms. Of course by then the O2 had run out...

What if Endless Defense mission turned into Survival after a number of waves. Lotus is always going on about how "Extraction teams are on the way", so why not have said teams actually show up after 30-40 waves and take the pod. Then you have the choice of extracting for rewards or fighting on Survival style.

as long as you are not looking at the exit or too close to the exit, mobs will still spawn there

OP, that would be much prefered, I love to melee and that would be a dream come true(since infested xini is gone)

Yeah, there was kinda a change in style between the event and the regular missions.

Back with the event, the O2 wasn't really that much of a factor, the problem was surviving the HUGE mass of mobs coming for you constantly, O2 was just another complication, like standing still with a hundred Infested around you (no Penta back then). I remember we only made it over the 20 minute mark because my little Nyx was spamming Chaos...

Today, the problem isn't SURVIVING the mobs, its FINDING ENOUGH of them...

Or at least change what is counting down on planet. The Lotus (whom I refuse to trust) says, "The grineers orbital satellite is locking on the spys location. Draw it's fire." No worrying about air but every 15 seconds a big old laser shoots adding a sense of panic to a crazy battle. And you may ask yourself why lotus wouldn't have you launch decoys to draw the laser fire, the answer is because she is the freaking villain!!!!

+1 OP.

i am still trying to understand why we depend on air for the survivals, i guess is to avoid AFK players, but should be another way to achieve this without relying on RNG to generate air.

My opinion is, I'm in a suit, that should have its own air supply or something, as I can happily walk out into space, and not implode from the Voids of space no problem, unless I'm just holding my breathe for a really long time....

I didnt play during the survival event but what you describe seems fun.

More fun than what we have now. I'm tired of chasing mobs in Survival. I am tired of having to quit not because the ennemies are to strong for me, but because I have no Oxygen left and Lotus is taking forever for a capsule.

But I'm not an optimistic person. I don't expect a change.

Problem with current survival is definitely the lack of enemies.  They need to fix it so that the enemies spawn more often.  I've seen enemies spawn in front of me, not that big of a deal.  Heck, have them spawn behind locked doors and walk through the locked doors without opening them.

But point is that we need more spawns.  Survival should not be: Let us find enemies to kill.  No, that is extermination.

Survival should be: Oh wow, these guys are really trying to kill us.

I personally never played the first survival, but hearing about a large room that you have to survive as long as you can sounds great.  Throw in some bosses showing up, and some maybe... Debuffs, that come with leaders that debuff you Warframe power... gun damage.... Power Duration ect would be a neat twist to the mix.  Make it so 5 people can party together as well.  Sounds like it would be a blast!

Agreed.  I loved weekend survival.  If DE feels that it's too rewarding in terms of mods and xp, maybe just bring it back now and then for a event.
