Steam Market Items, Workshop.

Hi there,

 

At this moment there are only few items for Warframe, all Phased stuff from single salke event. Do you think it was single happening or there will be more, would you like to see that?

Why not more, Valves cut vs. total controll in separate market?

Also would you like to see some small cosmetic items from workshop, or that would divide the community?

Like, I would, but regarding Workshop, I don't think it would be as easy as that.

I don't think they will do more steam cosmetics because of all the people who were upset over the fact you can only get them through steam. But I could be wrong, they might do it again.

 

I think if DE is to use steam workshop, it would have to be for creating player made levels (Kind of like the portal 2 workshop) instead of making weapons or cosmetics.

If I recall, they did mention in a livestream (A while back) about wishing to allow player created content, but in the form of levels.

 

Which, by the way, would be awesome.

I have had so many, many problems in the past with Steam. The first few times I put it on my computer, immediately after that I got slammed with viruses and BS. I removed it and the viruses were gone. It messed up my computer so bad each time besides those, too; only while Steam itself was running it ate my RAM.

 

I, personally, hate and despise Steam. Why should I need a third-party program when it can get hacked and all of my info stole, not letting me have access to any of my games on Steam, to get Warframe rewards or even play Warframe?

Yup it would not be easy. During many dev streams guys from DE said that customization system will be broaden, for ex. frames might not consist only of frame itself and helmet. Making frame customization more complex (even only by increasing number of cosmetic components) and releasing simple mod tools would be enough to start basic modding community. I guess.

 

I know it potentialy could conflict with their buissness model but I think it can be merged into something interesting.

Well not bad idea, free, optional, not giving any advantage. They would have to be as well as KF levels- whitelisted. PPL would exploit it making crazy XP/ resource farming levels.

 

Maybe they would be only for clans? For fight, making clan pics, video, you know, not for actual missions.

We all had. Some in 2004, some later. Hell, two days ago there were some problems with their servers.. does that count as real problems? I'm using steam since late 2006 I think. I've never had ANY serious problem. For last few years I can only remember server downtimes, serwer maintence sessions etc. Nothing more.

Steam a.d. 2014 is reliable, stable and very useful.

 

Viruses, from Steam? Sorry, but that's complete nonsense. I'm not negating that you cought some maleware and other bad things but srsly, don't blame Steam ffs :)

 

Why woul you need? Free games, F2P games, demos, mods, apps, saving screens, video, beign able to communicate with friend etc etc etc. Hacked, stolen? With normal, good password, Steam Guard, sober mind? Impossible. OFC many users had their accounts hacked. Most of these cases were caused by them, their lack of attention and though. Nothing more, nothing less.

 

Sorry but today it does not matter if you need or not- if you want to legally play most of games released these day- you have to use  Steam. Why would Steam not let you play Warframe??

 

Warframe is third party game, external app, not Steamworks game. It's F2P game as many others, you just launch it via Steam.

 

It's not 2007, anymore, you will embrace Steam if you like it or not. There is other way, it's called TPB but in that case forget about multiplayer and most of AAA games. Yes, sometimes devs release drm free version (Witcher 2), but these are exceptions.

 

Download it, add Warframe to your account and see how great it is. Unless your PC have <1gb od RAM you really should not feel eny difference :)

You are overreacting. Ive been a member of steam for a Decade now and have had no issues with being hacked, having my info stolen, or not being able to play games i register. It is quite possible you werent using wise browsing habits, as that can quickly compromise any system, even with proper firewalls. Regardless of your personal experience in the past, you can not refute current performance here in the future.

 

Steam is a superior machine, its already taken out GFWL (this summer its dead for good) and i wouldnt be surprised if Origins follows suit.

 

 

On topic, i would love to have a Warframe Workshop. I thought it was awesome that people make things for DOTA and the most upvoted items and things get coded and place into the game. If that where the case, than the department coming up with weapons everyone week for warframe could be retasked to other departments in DE to help with bug-chasing and deeper content. It would only take a small group of 3-5 people to reveiw votes and bring it to the development team to see if it can be done.

Besides, DE has one vision with what they want to do, if they are willing to accept other people's litteral input into the game, Warframe could stand to grow exponentially from the experience.

Nope no way to link a PS4 to steam (you could link your ps3 to steam for portal 2 but it would work with that game and that game only) They could make a PS4 link for warframe PS4 and steam but that would be up to DE to make and program and maintain...

Well, since that is the case, DE is already having enough issues just trying to get the updates and hotfixes out to you guys on time, i definately cant see something like this happening until that gets ironskinned out.

There's still a huge problem with the steam workshop.  Those items get implemented into the game, yes - but the creators also get paid for them.  25% of all sales go to the creators.  With the platinum model used in game, that would be very difficult to track at best.  For the PS4, it would be nigh impossible.

Monetary rewards aren't strictly necessary. I believe DE can state that the uploaders would be doing it out of the goodness of their heart (lol).

The only few sites I literally go to on my computer are my email and then a few major gaming sites ( Blizzard, Bungie, Warframe now, too ) and those are the only ones I've ever gone to.

 

I just tried downloading it again and it took me an hour to get rid of a virus that my anti-virus program said was caused by Steam.

I suggest you get better antivirus. Saying Steam causes viruses is like saying Google Chrome or Microsoft Office causes viruses - it just sounds ridiculous to anyone who has much experience with the internet.

ive been using Steam for ages. and i have harsh anti-virus programs and Steam gives me no problem. Hell Skype uses more RAM than Steam does. =D  Steam works fine. you just must  be doing it wrong only steam issues i have is that its servers ocasionaly disconnect my client. And thats just for a second. only noticeable when chatting

I really don't want to be mean but paraphrasing Postal Dude: Steam is not downloading viruses. You are.

Don't blade 3rd party gaming platform for your lack of precautions and though. You don't even need antivirs, just head on your neck and clear mind and knowledge what to do and how to do.

 

I have few chat windows, screenshot uploader opened and in total it takes ~55mb od RAM. It's not 2002 anymore. Memory nowadays is cheap as sh**, not to mention x64 architecture that allows for massive amounts of RAM, 8, 16, 32 or more gigs. Come on.

 

Try to play something else and see how long can you avoid Steam.

There are few things that could be polished but overall it's a fantastic app, I don't have anyone among my friend that hates it. Only few people are 'meh' about Steam integration because of their drm free philosophy. They have nothing agains platform itself. It's the biggest and the best atm.

My guess is that you ALREADY have viruses on your computer, and they act up whenever you try to install Steam, either that or your Antivirus is overly sensitive and somehow identifies Steam's anti-cheat engine (VAC) as a virus, which it isn't. What antivirus software do you have? Are you sure that your antivirus is actually an antivirus and not a virus itself?

 

I can guarantee with 100% certainty that you won't ever get a virus from Steam. Not in the past and certainly not now. 

 

Also the only antivirus you should ever need or use is Microsoft Security Essentials. Arguably the best AV for Windows, and it's free.

BTW, antyvirs can detect 'viruses' in Ati graphics software, fanmade patches for games etc.. GL following them blindly.

There is literally no difference between the Steam version of the game and the warframe.com version of the game. Anything from the workshop will be implemented in the game, and since both versions are almost identical, these things will also be implemented for non-Steam users.
