Tuxie Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 The Corpus Melee Sentinel has been named Helios by the design council, and I'm here to say that this name was an awful choice and frankly, anyone who voted for it should be ashamed. DE shouldn't have put that name up in the polls in the first place, to be honest. Helios, as we all know, is the name of the Greek Sun god, it might have been a cool sounding name, but how is it in any way fitting for a melee-focused sentinel? If it were a fire-based sentinel? Sure! It'd be a great name for it, but a melee one? I must have missed the part in Greek Mythology where the sun god became a brawler. There were better names on the poll, some of which are actually melee related, as for why were they were ignored for this awfully unfitting name I'll never know. Really, this is a prime example of when a democracy just doesn't work, because for it to work, the population has to be educated first.
izzatuw Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) Helios still sounds good to me... And this is supposed to be in feedback section. Edited March 20, 2014 by izzatuw
Anatolius Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 He was also the god that gave the gift of sight
izzatuw Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 He was also the god that gave the gift of sight That gives more sense because he scans for you.
Ritchel Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 He was also the god that gave the gift of sight i think this topic is done
Valiant Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) In all honesty, regardless of its function, I saw the sentinel and 'Helios' suited it. People are too fussy when it comes to names. I'm glad the 'gift of sight' comments have come about now though so it has some relevance at least, should calm the pointless 'rage'. Edited March 20, 2014 by Naith
Brimir Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) I don't like it either, but you should respect the wishes of the Council majority. Edited March 20, 2014 by Brimir
(PSN)Pengu_Imperialus Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 OP needs to go to the hug thread. Also it's very appropriate if it does fire damage.
Katakuna Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 It's not going to change. None of the DC-chosen names have ever changed, such as Nova or Carrier. Two "terrible" names that many voted for. Swallow your hatred and deal with it

It also seems sad how DE takes all there time to make a small thing that probably took a week or two and people just give negative feedback in a flash of a second
XenosInfinity Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) It's a core orbited by subcomponents which are held there by an invisible force. Nope, sounds like the sun to me. (ignore the fact that the sun does not periodically throw planets at its enemies) (edited because I somehow managed to type Throw as Through, I think my lack of sleep is showing) Edited March 20, 2014 by XenosInfinity
-Data-Reaper- Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) OP needs to go to the hug thread. Also it's very appropriate if it does fire damage. it's a corpus sentinel, that's why it does electrical instead of fire. I understand A LOT of player don't like the name or think it's too grand of a name for a sentinel, but most of the design council voted for that name and it stuck with it now. I personally liked the name Ohm but my vote didn't make much of a difference. Maybe you'll like the next naming for a weapon or sentinel more! :D btw Lilith, don't completely put down anyone who liked stuff that you didn't, I used to do that and it got me enemies. I think you should just accept the fact that Helios was the chosen name and stick with it. Edited March 20, 2014 by Daalienman
nefrai Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Helios is ok to me. I liked some of the other names better, but ehh. It's not going to replace my vacuum anyway :P
DJ_Redwire Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Personally I agree, I didn't vote for Helios because I didn't think it fit all that well. Guess I'll just have to get used to it. I voted for Ohm because oohhhhhmmmmmmm
ScorchedIce Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 What would you call it then? Little Mac? Rocky?Helios is fiiiine.
Tuxie Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 He was also the god that gave the gift of sight But what was he known for? I, as well as most people would have no idea of something like that. My point still stands. Awful name chosen by people with awful taste.
Workaround Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 What, you think they should have just called it Scanner and been done with it. Rename all the sentinels. Flasher, Cloaky, Zappy, Carrier, Puller and Scanner. Yay.
Morec0 Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 He was also the god that gave the gift of sight MYTHOLOGY SLAM!!!!

Morec0 Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 But what was he known for? I, as well as most people would have no idea of something like that. My point still stands. Awful name chosen by people with awful taste. You're point stands based on a generalization of his name. Your point encourages ignorance while Anatolius' and DE's reasoning for the name provides information that is fascinating and amusing together. Your argument was reduced to a nitpick, that's all you have left to go on. Sentinels are named for their ABILITIES not default weapons - since when does a Shade shoot lasers? Or a Cube have a machine gun?
Tsoe Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 It's a core orbited by subcomponents which are held there by an invisible force. Nope, sounds like the sun to me. (ignore the fact that the sun does not periodically through planets at its enemies) he would if he had ennemies Trust me
Utarious Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I feel it should of been a warframe name. Oh wellz.
Exo594 Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 DethCube: Unimaginative, but fits. Wyrm: Sorta fits with the shape? Shade: Fits, if a little indirectly for an invisbot. Djinn: Can someone explain this to me? This one makes no sense. Carrier: Fits stupidly well, but they could have called it something based on the shotgun, as you are arguing... Helios: Does it just fly off some 30 meters to the next enemy or does it stick by you? If it's the latter, you can't exactly say that it's a brawler, it doesn't have that attitude. But then again, think of all the times in humanity's past where we've named something after some historical/fictional character, and it "just doesn't fit". You think the Corpus, Grineer, and Tenno really know all that much about modern humanity, let alone OUR historic humanity? In addition, the Egyptian SUN GOD RA is symbolized by, you guessed it, an eye. Maybe this fits better than you imagine?
-Data-Reaper- Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Also, instead of Helios, Prometheus should've been an option. Think about it. Prometheus gave fire and knowledge. and you can still add fire damage to the sentinel's weapon, just make one combination then add fire as a third.

From the poll, I think they are going for short names. All the names to choose from were really short. There were certainly better sounding names in the thread than the ones in the poll, but it seems they were going for a certain feel - I think Helios was actually the longest name to choose from.
