[Warframe Concept] Oni - The Shinobi Frame

So this frame idea mainly started because I really liked Ash's original female concept and wanted it to get into the game as a separate frame, since DE has said "no" to different gender options for single frames. Here's the F!Ash concept art

So yeah, she looks different enough from Ash as of right now, but I figured some minor appearance tweaks would be needed. I was thinking maybe they could smooth out the bottom half of her face and make it look more like a facemask that you see the typical ninja wear some times, adding two "eye" slits on either side of the face, like this

and giving her two "horns" that curve back and then up at the tip(to fit with the name "Oni").

 

Now, on to the powers,

 

#1. "Kunai" - Oni jumps back and throws out 3/5/7/9 explosive kunai in an arc in front of her, each dealing 100/150/200/250 and proc'ing knockdown

#2. "Heightened Reflexes" - When activated, Oni's movement and melee speed are increased and she has the chance to dodge(receive no damage from) enemy attacks. Increases by 10%/20%/30%/40% and lasts for 6/7/8/10 seconds

#3. "Counter Attack" - For 5/6/7/8 seconds, Oni will automatically counter any melee attack and inflict 500/600/700/800 points of puncture damage

#4. "Leap" - Hold down the ability button and hover over an enemy to target it, can be done to 3/4/5/7 targets and when released, Oni will leap to each target, knocking them down and slitting their throats, dealing 700/950/1250/1750 points of slash damage.

 

Shields start at 150 and end up at 350

Health starts at 100 and ends up at 300

Power starts at 125 and ends up at 200

Sprint speed is 1.20

 

Quick backstory/info on the Frame: Oni is Elegant, agile, and deadly, she embodies the offensive principles of the Tenno. Her agility and quick thinking make her a deadly foe in melee combat.

 

 

I designed her #1 and #4 to be both damage dealers and ways for her to escape combat. Grineer piling in through a door and you need to get away? Throw Kunai at them, jump back from their gunfire and knock them all down to make your escape. Dozens of Corpus between you and extract? Target a path through them with Leap and jump your way to safety.

If you are having a speed increase skill then you need to have a lower base speed to account and balance for that. But I say even without a movement speed buff (which is too similar to Speed in my opinion) a 1.3 base speed is too high, if it absolutely must be super fast it should be equal to Loki but no faster.

Fair enough, lowered it to 1.20 so it is still fast, but allows Loki to keep his "fastest frame" title.

Her abilities are too similar.

How so?

 

Shuriken vs Kunai: Shuriken only throws out two, they home in and deal slash damage w/ a bleed proc. Kunai throw out multiple in an area in front of the user dealing Explosive damage. They don't nearly have as much range and target a wider area.

 

Smokescreen vs. Heightened Reflexes: Smokescreen turns you invisible, making you impossible/really hard to target and gives you a 400% stealth bonus. HR. still allows you to take damage and be targeted and increases your melee damage by a smaller amount as well as boosting your movement speed; along with a chance to dodge attacks. I could see this being a little similar but think it wouldn't at all similar if the damage avoidance was taken out or toned down to taking reduced damage.

 

Teleport vs. Counterattack: Teleport, well, teleports you to a single enemy, staggering them and allowing you to perform a finisher. Counterattack only activates when you are melee'd by an enemy and does not give you extra mobility.

 

Bladestorm vs. Leap: Alright, pretty similar, Leap is meant to be a bit more focused and it can target less enemies.

 

 

Overall, you have to keep in mind that Oni is meant to be the female counterpart to Ash so I did base her skills off of his, while making them function differently. I don't think they are too similar and her's make her a lot more of an agile, frontline fighter rather than a stealthy fighter

But that's the problem. De won't do a counterpart. Sure excalibur and Nyx look identical as hell but they are no where close in abilities.

I'd like to see something done with her but I doubt another stealth frame is going to work.

Hasn't DE said, while that they won't do gender swaps, they might do different gender frames with the same theme? I think this would fall under that.

 

Two of Ash's skills help with stealth(teleport and smokescreen) while none of Oni's do. Two only target one/two enemies max(Shuriken and Smokescreen) and one is an AoE(Bladestorm). None of Oni's abilities help with stealth, two are a self buff(Heightened Reflexes and Counterattack), One has an AoE and causes knockback(Kunai), and one is a limited target high damage skill(Leap)

 

Which is why I did not make her stealth and focused on damage.
