The Idea/concept Of Warframe Becoming An Open World Game.

So. Warframe is unique. The developers have agreed that waiting in the main menus and lobbies is rather boring. The thought of  Warframe as an open world is a bit weird at first because unlike most games, Warframe has things to do that are span across planets and you can't easily solidify that all into one gaming session like, say, GTAV or Elder Scrolls.

So, the developers have already hinted about their little private space stations in one of their Devstreams(not sure which #) and the idea behind it all. Let's try and recap what exactly this it.

In the teaser video it showed a Rhino walking about a small lobby with an expansive window overlooking a planet. There were several other Warframe players standing around doing whatever. Steve explained that this was a physical lobby for players to go when they wanted to play various nodes on planets. He added that if you wanted to choose a different planet you would use your space shuttle to "travel" there. From hindsight this seems like a slower version of just browsing across the Star Chart and simply choosing your node but on the other hand it seems more social and intuitive way to choose missions, find friends and possibly engage these players in chat like you would in Region chat or recruiting. The devs also noted that we "could" get emotes to interact with each other.

What can we do with this content?

Well me or you could round up our clan and engage other people and possibly form an alliance with other clans if we also had the Badlands content available. We could separate noobs from end-game players based on their mastery rank and gear they have. We could simply hang out and just sit around on some planets instead of always sitting in the main menu(which, in my opinion, invokes AFK). We could go to Mercury and help new people if we wanted to. We could scale the recruiting tab so far down to just sitting in these stations asking for a team or broadcasting your key/mission.

What could this bring as far as other content?

I think this would bring a public chat for the station so people could easily communicate/PM each other. I could see this being a start of many open world areas for players to engage in various content(lore, events, ect).

Questions?

-Does this mean we get dedicated servers for these "space stations"?

-Will The Stalker/Harvester/G3 come to this area and if that's true we could freely use our weapons and abilities?

-Will we always spawn in these stations as we log into Warframe and if so could we access our the Keys/Market/Foundry/Codex/Aresenal?

-Will this become the new main menu?

They said the hub would be optional and would not slow down players just looking to jump into a game. So a version of the current main menu will likely still be around.

And like the Dojo, I highly doubt these will be anything but a safe zone unless you opt in to something.

Go on, host it, I dare you.

1. Dojos don't need dedicated servers. The stations will most probably have limited max amount of players, there will be multiple instances.

2. I don;'t think so, it would be really stupid idea.

3. AFAIK yes

4. AFAIK yes.

I had more of a thought that the lobby thing would be more like a Dojo in a sense but perhaps this is just me.

As an open world game... there is a reason I tend to enjoy the game play of instanced over open world and that's because they tend to be a lot more creative with it instead of: Walk into large world > See stationary enemy > Go kill it.

I know this isn't the case with Warframe though. They've already got good gameplay mechanics as far as I'm concerned.

I'm hoping they won't remove the ease of just clicking on a menu. Perhaps do fun little mini games within the lobby just to waste time on whilst waiting for a mission would do me.

If I remember right Jade Dynasty had a really cool system where they had ingame mini-games. Like a match and a memory game.

I suppose ti would be ridiculous with so many people being forced into these with the absence of the main menu.

Hah. It would be funny if The Stalker showed his face in a lobby filled with Tenno ready to murder him.

I hope they use servers because it would be easier and more social for people wanting to find teams.

Yrah having things to do in these lobbies would definitely be ebtter than sitting in a menu.

I would like to be able to choose to spawn IN my dojo as default, i mean, when i log into the game i spawn in my dojo, and access the solar system map from the dojo itself, and all the other menus, armory, foundry, store, etc.

That would be nice, too. I never understood why they treat the Dojo as if it is just another mission.

Actually, they've mentioned before that theres a possibility that when you log in, you'll log into your own liset ship which you can then use to travel to an outpost.

So theres that too...

Im not against live lobbys,it could be fun to just mess around and do minigames and whatnot :)

But im not hosting anything thats for sure

I love the social aspect of it. Warframe seems kind of dull sometimes since all you can do is void keys, missions, Dojo and sit in the main menu.

Did not know this! Thanks for the info! :)

That actually opens the idea Orbister brought of isntead spawning in your Dojo. Sounds possible.
