Everything Wrong With Helios.

So let me compile a list of absolutely everything that is wrong with Helios...which is a lot.

Currently in terms of strength, usefulness and overall utility...the thing falls behind EVERY other Sentinel...and here is why (in my opinion).

Scanning.

This thing takes it to the next level of bad.
1. It seems to scan absolutely random (it will sometimes aim for things through doors, or enemies behind you.
2. It scans way too slow(It needs up to 5 seconds to scan an object/enemy)
3. Failed scans still remove scanner charges at times (People can waste 300 scanners in 2 days...and not scan a single useful thing)
4.It scans things that you have scanned to the max

The Weapon.

1. It uses melee mods...and thus reaches the lowest overall damage due to the lack of multishot
2. It has a 3 second reload time...good luck finding a reload mod for a melee weapon (why does a melee weapon have a reload timer?!?)
3.It can not crit
4.It does 100% impact damage which further pushes it into a corner (which means it's only good at taking out shields)
5. While it does have a proc chance...it will most of the times only hit 0-1 enemies (yes, with it's 100% accuracy it tends to miss quite a few shots), thus putting it behind the Sweeper in terms of procs as well)

The Research.

This horrible thing needs to be researched for. That is all I have to say on this issue. Shade and Wyrm are absolute gods compared to this...and those can gotten from the market for credits.

So fix this thing up asap. Some people actually paid money for this...and I feel sorry for them.

Fixes:

- Make it scan within 1-2 seconds
- Let it have a database check so it knows what you already scanned
- Don't let it waste scans on fails
- If you don't change the mods to rifle mods...at least remove the reload timer...melee weapons with reload timers? FFS
- Let ALL melee damage mods affect this thing....that seems to be the only solution to bring the dps close to the others.
- Either give it a crit chance or raise the proc chance.

Another idea for scanning, especially if buffing the speed, is to be able to set it to scan for something specific. Although I guess that would incur additional UI changes to make that happen. It would definitely be useful it if only scanned things you didn't have or didn't have maxed already!

would attack speed mods like fury help in the reload speed?

I totally agree with this because I only have maybe 3 things that I haven't fully scanned yet, it would be painful if Helios kept on wasting my codex scans on enemies that I have already scanned. For now, just going to get this thing for the mastery.

I totally agree with the OP; everything seems wrong here. I'm close to the end-game I'd say and dont exactly like to/ have time to run around the maps scanning things. I have just a few things I have remaining so just for the sake of convenience of filling up the last few codex items it made sense. I'd collect a new sentinel and it would help with my scans... Boy was I wrong. It takes ages to scan and then scans everything! Even things I've already scanned?? WHY?? That's just silly. I can only see this being useful temporarily and then go back to something more useful. I like the idea; but the implementation needs work; Just went to Earth and standing next to an injector didn't want to scan, I got fed up and scanned it manually. ATM defo not worth the plat until it is fixed.

I agree with everything the OP said.

Additionally, Helios takes FOREVER to switch between targets, even when Investigator is unequipped.

DE seems to have made this sentinel only to get money.  The research and blueprint are both insanely expensive in terms of resources and buying the sentinel for plat seems so cheap in comparison, especially when you account for getting 2 taters and 2 sentinel slots with it.  Then, the sentinel itself SUCKS.  I'm sorry to say I'm one of the poor souls who were ensnared by these underhanded tactics.  This is not a good way to do business, and because of this, I refuse to buy plat for a while (I usually buy plat every time I get a 50+% coupon in the login rewards).

Agreed 100% on those scan flaws.

I'm not sure it should even use your scan charges. Does Shade use your energy to cloak you? Does Wyrm use your energy to stomp enemies? Why does this one sentinel take stuff from your wallet while the others run free of charge? Especially considering this sentinel has a limited lifespan (as soon as you have scanned everything in the game it goes in the vault, never to be used again).

It really does, sticking the dethmachine rifle in it is comedy gold: who knew that thing could only fire 1 shot every few seconds ?
