I think the easiest way to cut down the contrast fighting and make the typography stand out would be to add a gradient shadow or highlight behind the words that obscures the weapons up to 50% when right up next to the letters. Could do something similar but more subtle and probably black behind the weapons themselves if you want a little more of a sticking out effect.
