Chapter 3- How can this be improved? Outro- Thanks DE! Changelog Intro- Why Write This? I am NOT writing this because I dont like DE, in fact, I think they are some of the best developers out there, mainly because of how interactive they are with the community. I am not writing this because i think the game's current viability of "Rambo mode" sucks, its amazing to be that super-fast ninja that can take on an entire Grineer carrier solo! I am NOT writing this because the game was designed poorly, the fact that the game is so popular is a testament to that. I AM writing this because I see a possibility, because I see an aspect of the game that desperately needs attention, and aspect that is soon to be done injustice. Stealth. Read on to learn more. Chapter 1- What is Stealth Gameplay? Stealth gameplay is the game practice of going through entire maps or levels without being noticed by the enemy faction, a slow, painstakingly difficult form of play that is often popular because of the challenge it presents, or the "cool factor" of being able to take out an entire faction without ever being seen! That's worthy of respect. Stealth gameplay often includes maintaining a low profile, only killing enemies when you cannot get around them or when they have something important, hacking security consoles in order to cause distraction or reduce awareness, completing missions indirectly, such as wiping out a ship by hacking the command console and sending it on a collision course with the sun, or by turning off life support. Or capturing a relic or a target without ever being seen. Or perhaps rescuing a captive by turning out the lights and sneaking past the blinded guards. These are all what is means for stealth gameplay. Chapter 2- What is it in Warframe? In Warframe, stealth gameplay consists of crouch walking along the walls of every room, assassinating every enemy, getting to a single point, pressing a button, then walking back to where you started. Hoping that no one sees you, hoping that your sentinel (should you have one) doesnt have an itchy trigger finger, hoping that you don't get jumped by the stalker, never looking for alternate paths because there are either none available or they are all exposed. Overall, not being stealthy at all expect for hiding behind a wall or two. Currently, DE is improving stealthy gameplay, they have improved enemy AI in relation to stealth, and allowed the hacking of consoles after being spotted to reduce alertness of the next room of enemies, but nothing really special as of yet. The injustice soon to be done is the "Forced Stealth" aspect of levels to come, Stealth should be a choice, not a requirement. Chapter 3- How can this be improved? First things first, as always. I do NOT intend for DE to take my word as God's, I do not want them to think I'm bossing them, I do not want them to see my writing as the bible reincarnate, no. All i want is to give them Ideas. To start the wheels of cognitive thought turning and turning, to help them see things from a whole new perspective. To Improve stealth gameplay, first needs to be the implementation of incentive to play stealthily. Maybe a bonus if you are never spotted and still complete the mission? Or perhaps a higher chance of loot drops from unalerted enemies or from loot crates? There needs to be incentive for the player to spend 5x more time on a mission than to just Run through and shoot everything. Next, there needs to be a more realistic modular system of level construction. A randomly built set of tiles with 1 main pathway and two or 3 smaller ones that only offer loot crates and enemy spawns is not good. Each level needs to have tiles that logically make sense. Every ship needs a life support system, ventilation systems, an engine room a bridge, a cargo vault, barracks/construction facility, an armory, etc. All the things that anyone would see on a ship if they were actually there. Every room should be accessible, even if you have to go through a complex vent system, a couple elevator shafts or hack a few doors to do it. Every room should be interactive, if your goal is to wipe out a ship, there are a large number of ways to do it! You could sabotage the life support giving both you and your enemy a time limit to get off the ship, or maybe detonate the power core, hack the bridge console for a collision course with the nearby planet? Or turn off the engines and let the ship rot. Those are just the ways ONE mission type could be done! Not including how to go about it! You could crawl through the vents, hoping the ships life scanner don't spot your movement, you could turn out the lights, raising enemy alertness but offering a temporary cover of darkness. the more you hack, the more they'll be able to "triangulate" your position! There are hundreds of way to do all the different missions, all DE has to do is make the main rooms, the transition rooms, and multiple ways for each room to connect to the next room or maybe even rooms on different levels! This is just for SHIPS! Imagine what asteroid bases could be like! Or the harsh jungles of Earth? Going from Grineer camp to camp through the marsh, but having to deal with hostile wildlife instead of Grineer! I am not saying doing this is easy, but if DE puts in time and dedication, they can make Stealth gameplay, hell gameplay in general, the best damn thing EVER. Outro- Thanks DE! Thanks for the awesome game DE! If you, or anyone, took the time to read this, thanks! I am not saying my way is the best, to be honest, IDC if even of flake of my idea is used, but something HAS to be done, and i have complete confidence in DE that if they put the time and dedication, no amount of difficult coding can keep them from making warframe the best game out there. Keep going!
