About That Sweet Sweet Stance Idea...icing Prepared Serve When Ready *warning Feeble Attempt To Entertain In A Long Post Included =)*

Edit : WARNING: THERE ARE PICTURES AND THEY ARE AWESOME.

Also Melee 2.0 has been released so take a teaspoon of that while you read the OP which was written before the release.

Beloved DE/Community,

Melee 2.0 is by far one of the most anticipated additions to this love saga of ours that is Warframe in my humble opinion. I think the idea of stances is interesting and can be most definitely referred to as The Awesomeness™. Far be it from me to suggest anything that would delay the release of the sweet sweet space samurai ninja attack system that we have been tantalized and enamored by since late last year... BUT... IF I MAY SUGGEST: allow us to switch stances in mission. Boom!

I admit I have no idea of the extent nor the intricacies in the combo system in development...I am assuming there will only be 2 stances to switch from...BUT I can assure you this simple option would engulf players and DEFINITELY entice us to use our melee weapons more....plus there are more than one enemy type in a stage. Perhaps this will enable us to have more combat options in that regard? We can switch between primary and secondary weapons... perhaps a stance switch in game will give us that extra oompf that will throw melee 2.0 over the top enforcing that the Sword truly does Stands Alone? .... I don't see how anyone could reasonably complain about melee 2.0 after that....the wait would be understood by all. This would set a precedent proclaiming sometimes filet mignon takes time to be prepared correctly.

If this is even possible all I ask is that it is considered...do it in secret if you think it is worth consideration...try it internally, have the design council vote on it if it is feasible. If it is not possible thanks for the consideration. I would be fine if the only way I knew about if it was is if the opportunity presented itself in the game or in the release notes/UI...possibly this could even be a mastery rank incentive/weapon rank? (The ability to switch stance? Kinda makes sense imho)<--thats kinda sexynice™.

But%20How%20image.jpg

What input combination could possibly facilitate this incredible sexynice™ task you ask? Well, if in theory holding the equip button will equip the melee weapon perhaps holding it while the melee weapon is equipped will switch stances? It is hold vs. tap right now right? I don't think this would take away from pace of the game and if you could not change stance mid combo it wouldn't be game breaking in theory...I have never built a game from scratch (I know crazy right?) and I only have some uber basic game coding experience... in my limited scope I am assuming this is an achievable goal and would not require an insane amount of original coding/artwork...considering what we can already do... stance recognition could be as simple as a symbol being highlighted like the abilities are currently in the UI..The symbols could even be placed under the weapon name in the UI similar to the ammo placement now with a primary/secondary weapon. Maybe they could be highlighted in red to keep with the color scheme or green to standout? It would be a state change no? Theoretically no different than the state change between a primary and secondary weapon or when a frame uses a power or walks or jumps or does anything else. (Pardon my ignorance but it is blissful and inspiring is it not?)

These are just ideas and I am simply opening the floor up for discussion and consideration... well Community, have at it?

I would like this too... HOWEVER, in my opinion the way they have it now (as a mod system) allows them to, at any point, think of MORE new stance ideas and seamlessly add them in as drops from mobs for you to equip, whereas under a simple "click to switch between any!" system the adding of more and more stance would clog it up with too many and make cycling through a hassal, meaning they'd have to stop at a certain number to keep things easy to use (which isn't fun for anyone).

Stopped caring after I saw all the unnecessary pictures.

Fair enough. Sometimes that is how I feel when I see a very long post. It may be gold but too much to ingest. I tried to add some element I may have found entertaining to aid the reader throughout my post.

I dunno, I found the pictures highly entertaining and made me read on more.

If it was a standard wall of text, Proobly would have skipped it over.

So +1 OP.

As for the idea, I could see this being a fun thing, Really. But I'm more inclined to wait for Melee 2.0 to drop before adding on Ideas to it. Although that being said, Again. This could really be fun. If it's not too hard for DE to implement as you say. -Nod-

I am basing this on the premise that each weapon grip only has the option of 2 stances total. No extra stance mods. Just 2 per weapon grip. That is not too bad if I had to give an opinion on it.

Thank you very much.

I love long posts, write them often myself but the pics were a bit distracting.

I like your melee ideas. I use melee in this game a lot.

Thank you for your opinion. I use melee a lot as well this would give us option and depth without being too complex. I think lol. I really have the most basic idea of what they have in store for us.

I think this is a perfectly valid improvement. However, this level of complexity should be added later on, after they have a handle on Melee 2.0. DE can't go making it too complex and rushing into things before testing out the base qualities though.

Adding pictures redundantly makes me less inclined to read your post.

However, Its very unlikely that DE will do anything revolutionary to start melee 2.0 off with. Its more likely they are trying to get the thing working to begin with.

Thank you for powering through despite those pictures. I am inclined to agree with you BUT what I am suggesting may not be such a drastic tweak. It may very well be possible if it does not disrupt the devlopers plans. I think it would definitely put a cherry on top.

Oh yeah, I agree; if it's just 2 or even 3 it's not bad at all. However, I anticipate this system GROWING and GROWING, with new animations and new mods being added to it over time to give players more and more depth for how they want to use the system. If that were to happen, as I said, your system would get clunky and in the way of smooth gameplay.

I don't really think you need quite so many images to carry your point.

No, but he did and it was beautiful ^.^

Jedi Knight system with Light/Medium/Heavy stances?

Again: very simplified compared to what I feel they could do with the system and WANT to do with the system. If they only EVER include three stances then okay, I'd call for something like this as well - but that they didn't suggests to me that we'll be seeing more in the future (or even initially than we think we will).

(btw: that game was the S#&$!)

1. Thank you for your opinion.

2. Fighting the urge to post a slew of JOKE memes in response to this has obviously made me a better person. lol

3. What do you think about the idea of being able to switch stances?

Thanks !!! If my opinion counted... I would only opt for 2 stances to cycle through.... using the proposed input system I think this would keep the game flowing. As far as how many stance options to choose from... I have no idea what DE has in store with that. I am basing this on 2 options in game. The animation team might very well be overwhelmed already... I really would not know if they are planning more than 2 combo chains... They had a test version I hear but it did not feel like warframe so they are back at the drawing board.

I don't know what I think about switching stances. Since I've seen a grand total of 0 actual gameplay of Melee 2.0 I have no idea how powerful or even viable any of the stances are to begin with.

It may turn out that the ability to change stances mid-mission is unnecessary. Of course, it could also just as easily turn out that we sorely need something like that.

Without having any knowledge of how the new system acts in practice I feel like it doesn't matter yet what I think.

Fair enough as always. Conjecture has never been my strongest suit but the idea came and I gave it a voice. You do make a great point we do not know the intricacies of the new system yet. Just spit balling a little bit. Options can be cool.
