use it against level 100 heavies and i am quite certain that you will feel otherwise. ALL of my posted builds with the exception of the 67% status effect one are completely effective until mobs are around 119 or so. thats the highest I've fought recently. so dont say something looks bad when you haven't given it a shot yet.

using tainted shell, is not only a rookie mistake, it's a willful sacrifice of around 7-9k dps. that build(tested it) does infinitely less damage, and has almost no proc's happening. sorry, but this is a newbie build if nothing else.

edit: use of a lot of non rare-mods makes this a newbie friendly build, or a useful one for someone who has not mastered what this weapon does.

Yeah just ignore Vernoc, he pops into threads, throws insults around without explanations, and offers something trolltastic.

I do think that +90% Corrosive (elec or toxin) would be better than Incendiary Coat in your void build tho. IC adds fire, which draws procs away from Viral/Corrosive and does less damage to Gunners.

SS + Ammo Mut vs. Vicious Spread and 90% more corrosive elemental - first will do more DPS, but the latter will do more Corrosive DPS, which becomes more and more important at higher levels. Still I think I prefer SS/AM for reduced spread + not ever needing ammo boxes, but both build types are valid imo.

from what i understand as to status procs, viral reduces max health, fire gives a stacking DoT, and corrosive reduces armor permanently,.

taking that into account, as i get roughly 14-16 proc's a second with that 58% status chance, and the additional .9 fire rate lets me apply them more often, reducing armor, health and dealing fire dot, WHILE hammering away at shields and health in a matter of seconds. you can reach upwards of 22k dps, however i advise that for a boss encounter, as you will need accelerated blast and shotty spazz, but no room for ammo mutation.

fact of the matter is, nothing higher than 14-16k dps is needed to smoke level 100 heavies in this game presently.

Something I've always been a little puzzled on is if the Phage follows the same proc chance formula as the other multi-pellet weapons. I've never noticed the Phage proccing all that much, even without Tainted Shell. Then again, I haven't tried it with the Tethra mod. Do you consistently get enough Corrosive procs for the stacking armor debuff to be noticeable?

as far as i have noticed, proc chance is not divided by the amount of tentacles the phage is pumping out, as on max focus fire i need level 100 mobs to do some actual testing as everything save for bosses dies on contact. on level 100 mobs and up, however, i notice a significant amount of proc's per second on maximum focus fire. also, the slower rate of fire you have on the phage, the less status chance per second is applicable due to initial RoF is 1 round per second. Increasing the length of "one second"(reduction to fire rate) means that although yes that damage is applied, you have to wait much longer for the next chance to apply a status. at 2.5 fire rate it takes around 11 seconds to empty your clip, which is 40 seconds worth of fire/status chance being shoved down on a mob in 11 seconds. see how that applies to improved status chance?

With SS, 120% MS and both event mods, the Phage has, I believe, ~1.4 procs per tick when all the beams are fully focused. I *believe* each beam does have its own partial proc chance from that - so 1.4/# of beams, which I think is 13? Around 10-11% status per 'tentacle'.

There's definitely an increase in procs when multiple tentacles are touching an enemy.

at max multishot it has 14-15 beams that when fully focused give you the best shot at status effects. test it out with blast....you'll get a REALLY good idea how often it really tic's
