We Are Not Ninja's We Are Space Pirates With Power Suits

I have been playing this game since last year, I have over a 1000 hours of play in the game and many times I have heard the catch phrase "Ninja's in Space". Now a year later with the advent of Melee 2.0 and all the discussion going on about this I have come to realize that as the game has evolved that we are not really Ninjas but simply Space Pirates in power suits for hire when it suits our need and The dojos our own little islands of Tortuga. There is no true stealth mechanic or really the need for it when you can simply throw on Ironskin and gun your way through or simply hit 4 with any other Warframe to clear the way. Quite frankly using any kind of melee weapon is impractical when a enemy can be killed from a distance. Calling us Ninjas is, IMHO, quite a misnomer. Also IMHO if that was the intent from the beginning for us to be truly Ninjas then a much better stealth mechanic should have been introduced along with Melee 2.0 from the beginning and lessen the amount of projectile weapons in the game. Then truly in that case our Primary weapon would have been what is at the moment a weapon sometimes used, with any projectile weapons being regulated to a lesser role. I am no ninja but a Spartan with powers and I know this is all probably just mote point but I felt it was something that needed to be said IMHO. I do like the game and I do continue to play it but to call me something I'm really not just rubs me the wrong way.

That's why Lore is needed.  We need more Honorable Codes of conduct.  We need less of the feel of "guns for hire" we need a common cause to unite under.  Fighting against the oppressive and evil Grineer Empire doesn't give you this feel of heroism?  Freeing your bretheren from the greedy clutches of Alad V, saving them from unspeakable torture and violence while being cut apart to meld into his freakish machine doesn't give you a sense of satisfaction?  Think about how the entire game comes together.  The Tenno have never been space pirates.  We have always been heroes, and while we may need more Lore in the game to help confirm this, that's what we are.  You are not playing the game right if you don't feel this way.  Can a space Pirate wallrun and double-flip off a wall and then slice a communist Grineer in half with your Katana?  No.

I think we are somewhere on the line of samurai and ninja. We are easily capable  of stealth - which is why I'm looking forward to DE putting more emphasis on it - but are just as capable of facing enemies down in full-on combat. We were warriors at some point in the past, but if we were battlefield fighters or special forces going around the backlines in ninja-like fashion hasn't really been fleshed out.

DE likely had the idea for "Space Ninjas" in mind while initially designing the game, but those elements became less and less prevalent as it progressed through development. Still, I see the frames as being whatever we choose to make them - warrior, wizard, mercenary, ninja; it's all up to the player.

@DJ-7809 It would if those same people did not hire us to fight against their enemy and pay us handsomely for doing it which would be in the days of the Pirates as a Letter of Marque, then yes, but we don't, we fight for pay. Each mission you dial into play has a reward of some sort, you can look at it as if the mission is against Corpus the reward probably comes from the Grineer and vis versa. In regards to your question about wall running and slicing, why would I when I can just kill hum with my Bolter prime:)

That got me thinking.

Pirate frame.

The next frame is supposed to do with water, but more specifically something you do WITH water. I'm hoping for a mariner frame myself, since pirate would generate a lot of "ninja vs pirate" eyerolling.

We have ninja stars, frames that can go invisible, parkour abilities, bows, swords... You can dress up in all black and reset the alarms over and over. I think if you want to play as a ninja you can. Most people choose to use weapons that are less related to a historical warrior, but that's part of the variety of the game.

I find it EXTREMELY strange people keep mentioning, "this isnt a ninja game cause stealth," when 99.89% of all ninja games in video game history do not have stealth. I hope all you folks were complaining about every single one of those games when they came out. Are you going to complain about the new Ninja Gaiden game?

engineered super soldiers controlling warframes, they are not suits. they are not something you open up or put on. inhabit yes, briefly, consciousness only, the tenno's real body is elsewhere...if they even have one. the space ninja thing is catchy, but modern day it's spec ops teams. those are the 'ninja's' of this century. warframes take drone control to a whole new level.

don't get DE's insistence on anthropomorphizing the frames (valkyr's sob story) when clearly looking at several of them there can't be anything remotely human inside, tenno can swap out frames anytime, and cannot die. the frames might have their own limited intelligence, but nothing approaching high intelligence. something that handles the frames autonomic functions...fly by wire sort of deal.

No, they are most certainly suits of some kind. See Excalibur's lore. There is nothing to suggest they are drones that are being controlled.

The swaping of frames is game mechanics (although I personally see it as each being an individual Tenno, not the same one) and not dying is, again, game mechanics ('cause you CAN die, the game is just extremely liberal with helping you out of oit)

No we are ninjas

Pirates spend their time too drunk to be able to walk in a straight line, let alone a straight line up a wall.

They cant fly

They cant deflect bullets with swords

They cant teleport and stab someone in the chest 3 times

They cant call upon the souls of the fallen to help them

They cant heal their breatheren from across several leauges

They cant throw a knife with precision enough to sever a head

They cant slide into a front-flip, and then cut the very air to let them speed faster through it.

They cant insantly deprive all enemies of their weapons with a flick of their wrist

They cant turn their enemies against themselves with a single thought

They cant liquify their enemies with biochemical compounds so virulent that it leaves nothing behind

They cant generate an electrical pulse so massive that it fries any computer system within 50 meters in a cascading explosion

Pirates cant do any of that.

So, if we arent ninjas, there is only one thing we are

Through Affinity, I gain power

Though power, I gain Victory

Though Victory, my bonds are broken

Nah guys you got it all wrong. We're space idiots.

Who the hell picks up a 5k credits crates after 40 mins in survival missions? Who the hell would waste time over screwed up loot tables? Who the hell needs 10 orokin cells while losing an orokin catalyst in order to dual wield? That's right, Tenno...

lore? BS, there is nothing human inside those suits, take off the fan glasses. nekros? mag? yeah, right, something inside either of those is human, nova even? and DE hasn't been at ALL consistent on any lore. my surmise works for all scenarios...trying to say that there is something human inside those frames fails on so many levels. you or DE can spout as much lore as you desire, when it comes to the physical make up and limitations of a human being it doesn't fly.

unless tenno have surgical squires that deform them on demand to fit into those 'suits'. don't think so.

"Twisted by the Void". Again, they don't need surgical squires to deform them - it's possible they already are.

"What flesh is inside that Warframe?" - Sargas Ruk

Twisted can mean a lot of things. They were human (still technically are, I suppose), they're something more now.

And I don't see why people have an issue with Mag's helmet - don't assume that it's full of that gas stuff and that the swirls are only surface-deep and a head (especially the head of someone "twisted" in some manner, maybe deformed) could easily fit in here.

Nekros? Anorexia (at best). Something even thinner in there, aided by the suit.

And I don't even know WHAT you're getting at with Nova.

DE's been pretty consistent with the Lore as far as I can tell. There isn't much of it, sadly, but nothing exists to suggest what you're suggesting. You're the one with the fan glasses, for your own theory.

well seeing as a codex entry stated any person who survived being in the void was twisted, essentially not looking like a normal human would explain nekros' build, but any and all arguments on what EXACTLY they are, is moot until DE themselves say what they are and who knows, humans at this stage may be tons more malleable than we are right now. But again...Whatevs.

EDIT: Tenno'd.

I'm fine with anything so long as we get something reminiscent of those fancy captain/admiral coats from One Piece. I'll put an example below, but its not exactly the best.

Maybe for an added touch we could have the writing (not sure if Kanji or not) say Balance instead of whatever is written right now (I know it's Something Justice, or just Justice.)
