An Open Letter To The Warframe Community (From An Airmech Player)

Congratulations on making it to the finals of the MMOBomb F2P Showdown contest. Best of luck to everyone.

I am a gamer/YouTuber who enjoys both AirMech and Warframe. While I am supporting AirMech in the MMOBomb contest, I am really impressed with Warframe and its developers. In fact, I have 100 more hours logged into Warframe than AirMech.

As an incentive to get players to vote for AirMech in the MMOBomb contest, the developers of AirMech created exclusive in-game items and cosmetics that were released each time AirMech won a round in the contest. So for this round, the devs decided that if AirMech beat Warframe, they would give all AirMech players a "head" cosmetic inspired by one of the warframes. This was not meant to be a threat, but rather a sign of respect. You see, AirMech loves to add content from other indie games to promote them, as AirMech is an indie game themselves. The developers of AirMech already have added skins of Minecraft's Creepers, Gunner Z's A-HMV, and even characters from the Penny Arcade comics. Contrary to what some may believe, the "head" wasn't a severed head trophy to be mounted on a wall, it was a helmet. This helmet could be worn like a hat, and not just any hat! Due to it's exclusiveness, the Warframe hat would quickly become one of the most prized cosmetics in the game.
The players of AirMech do not mean to threaten the Warframe community or turn their noses up in pride. The AirMech community views the contest as a fun competition, and it was done in good spirit. They have only respect for Warframe and its developers.

James Green, head developer of AirMech, stated on the Carbon Games forums:
"Also, for the record, I like the Waframe devs a lot and am really impressed with the game. If AirMech does lose to Warframe, I think the AirMech community should support Warframe through he rest of the contest."  (Quote from the thread located here: https://www.carbongames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=14307&sid=f8ac136a73ddcc652c0d75dc96244964&start=40)

As a supporter of both games, it makes me sad to see some members of the Warframe community degrade other games over a contest that should be fun and most of all, a display of mutual respect between gamers regardless of which game you play.

I wish the best for Warframe and its community.

That right there is sportsmanship. All the people who shame other titles simply to promote Warframe, shame on you.

Its really nice to know the mutual respect between devs. Really refreshing from the usual harsh competition.

In the points of people who talk of bad sportsmanship:

I shame anyone who shoot down any game, even to promote warframe.

It's pitiful, and rather vulgar in our society today.

I honestly hate these foolish contest, as it seems they are just made for bragging rights, as people start acting foolish so they can say:

"omg lel mai gaiem es better den urz my gam3 beat u"

For the Airmech community:

Really, I would be happy to see some friendship between the two communities, rather than some rudimentary rivalry.

We should have a cross-promotion, unknow99's idea.

I think I have heard of this, just saying in defense for warframe, it is in beta.

It's been stupendous due to collaboration of the devs and the community, contrasted to most.

Airmech is in beta as well.

troll post...nothing to see here...

The replies to this thread really helped boost my faith in the Warframe community.

Then you came along... -_-

Anyway, thanks you guys, I really appreciate your posts. Keep being awesome!

some people suck, don't blame the game or the community as a whole for the vocal minority being a bunch of knobs. I'm sure if I go on some airmech forums I'll find people slamming warframe.

It's not exclusive to just our community. mutual to all communities.

You'd be suprised. The "I hate warframe" total post count is sitting at a whopping zero.

I'm not blaming anyone, just trying to clear up a misconception that some people might have.

I want to qualify this.

There are players who had bad experiences with the previous games we've voted against.  Some of us have developed a VERY hard skin due to the toxicity of other communities like LoL and APB:R.  At this point, an opinion is developed against a game.  I think it's natural to speak out and say that other people should not play this particular game because of bad impressions or possibly devolved communities.  Human nature says that these people do not want others to experience the same game that left them in bad taste, under the guise that it's on another fellow human's experience.  And that can lead to stubborn members not uncommon to all gaming communities.

Not everyone can communicate in a civil manner on all terms.  This is not exclusive to Warframe.

Also, AirMech helmets please.

EDIT: I spy DE Staff looming over this thread.  :)

Fair point. The main goal of the open letter was just to clear up a misconception, but I see your point of view.

Ok now I seriously want an AirMech helmet/sentinel skin. DE PLZ

I can understand that. smaller communities are generally filled with less jerks.
