New Sentinel (Or Sentinel Mod) Suggestion

Hey all,

 

I was considering possible solutions to the Arc Trap issue that would both allow DE to keep them in the game and placate the player base. I came up with a couple (related) ideas.

 

1) A new sentinel that detects and destroys arc traps within a certain radius. The exclusive ability mod would highlight arc traps on the map for the player within that radius, and if the player is close enough and the trap is unobstructed, would then move to destroy it -- with a fairly liberal cooldown time, of course. It could sport an electric arc (or even magnetic type) weapon, as those types have not yet been utilized in a sentinel to date. If that sounds too OP, perhaps it could simply disable the trap for a few seconds, giving the player a short window to destroy it.

 

2) The second idea I had is simply a watered-down version of the former: a general sentinel ability mod -- think Coolant Leak -- that would highlight Arc Traps (á la Thief's Wit). A Tenno could then use this information to avoid the trap or destroy it.

 

Either of these could be a potential solution to the Continuing Saga of the Arc Traps. If anyone has suggestions or improvements, please comment below! It's important to keep an open dialogue to allow DE to give players the best game possible.

This is too specific. Make it so it detect/targets all traps (corpus cameras/turrets and the electromagnetic doors) and it could be useful. This suggests Arc Traps cannot be fixed to be good so they need a sentinel band-aid, and I do not believe that to be true.

Id rather have the mod to function like an arc trap, anything that gets near the sentinel gets zapped, it doesn't have to be for huge damage but as long as it got the electrical proc it would make it pretty useful. Just think of it like an electric Coolant Leak.

Very good point! I don't think they're broken; it's just that so many people find them annoying at the moment. I considered those things briefly, but dismissed them due to worry about making it too OP'd.

I thought Sentinels shoots cameras and traps.

 

They do shoot cameras, and auto turrets (sometimes even when they're off -- unless that was fixed), but I don't think my Carrier or Helios has ever attacked an arc trap or Grineer sensor bar. If they have, it hasn't been nearly efficient enough for me to notice!
