SilentMobius
cold and gold.. i think this refers more to their lack of compassion Orokin literally means "Gold people" Oro=Gold Kin=People. I think its pretty critical to their makeup as beings. Edited September 25, 2014 by SilentMobius
KracsNZ
Orokin literally means "Gold people" Oro=Gold Kin=People. I think its pretty critical to their makeup and beings. More likely the Family of Gold than Gold People (both noun and adjective wise). Probably suits the setting better to (golden ruling class?). Odd though, Oro is Italian/Spanish but Kin is English/Germanic. Edited September 25, 2014 by KracsNZ
Cerberus888
Further proof that the Orokin are at least human shaped is the Imperator Syndana, which was worn by high-ranking Orokin officials. Not the biggest element but we can assume they wore ninja scarf things. In the relations between Tenno and Orokin, the Tenno were not Orokin but they most definitely served them. Did they do so willingly? Was it their choice? What drove them over the edge? Some of the reasons why people think the Orokin made the new wave technocyte is because 1: Tenno were forced to kill other infested Tenno (as evidenced by the Ether Blade codex) which could have led them to 2: become hateful of the Orokin because of the damage they have caused. Perhaps the Tenno decided (or Lotus decided, if she existed back then) that the Orokin ultimately detrimental to the "balance" of the system (which Lotus is so obsessed with). These are just theories but they are sensible, at least to me. From the Mag codex: "It was essentially empty. Just ten men, like me, strapped in with the best zero-tech suits and weapons the empire could build... and "it". "It" stood in the aisle, a slender and eyeless metal form. A Tenno inside its Warframe. Vaguely human, vaguely feminine." So they are humanoids at least.
Abenoki
I'm not sure if its been said but hayben and nemesis both had prototype suits. That wasn't technocyte mutation it was the beginning of what would eventually be a warframe. Also, for something to loo like gold it doesn't have to be gold for anyone referring to needing a lot of gold. CelticMoss
People keep saying orokin has to be Ai since they're cold but what happen if they're a cold blooded race? like a super smart lizard and lizards like shiny items. SilentMobius
More likely the Family of Gold than Gold People (both noun and adjective wise). Probably suits the setting better to (golden ruling class?). Odd though, Oro is Italian/Spanish but Kin is English/Germanic. Oro is also esperanto. Almost like the kind of linguistic mash-up you'd get if a very small number of people from different nations were the only remnant of human culture to survive for thousands of years. I get the feeling that "kin" is being used in it's "kind" context rather than family. but I'm positing a very small group so I guess it's much of a muchness
Kaokasalis
I think the Orokin were humans that became cyborgs to transcend their mortality. At some point they probaly became powerful enough or important enough that they made a empire and subjugated the normal humans into a empire. The reason i believe its like this is of course the cold and gold part part from stalkers lore but also this bit in Excaliburs lore entry. "The Sentients had won. They had turned our weapons, our technology, against us. The more advanced we became, the greater our losses. The war was over unless we found a new way. In our desperation we turned to the Void. The blinding night, the hellspace where our science and reason failed." I dont know what the Sentients are but i believe they are advanced AIs that went rogue with the ability to somehow turn the Orokins technology against. While the Orokin may have been cyborgs i still consider them bound to their body. Mabye they tried to turn themself into AIs but something went wrong and the Sentients were created? The Corpus and Grineer are probaly descendants of the human servants of the Orokin empire.
SilentMobius
Since I wrote the OP my views have crystalized a little regarding the Warframe timeline, here are my current thoughts -4. "The Agency" finds or develops the Technocyte virus -3. Mezner as part of the "Agency Futurist Enclave" leads development of technology based on the Virus and is biproducts, the suits are labled with the AFE logo: The Lotus symbol -2. Two armour suits are created "Nemesis" and what we now call "Proto Excalibur" It's likely these suits do not require technocyte infection to be used. -1. Mezner becomes infected and plans to create a technocyte army/hive using Lasria as a base. 0. Dark Sector 1. Earth fall to the technocyte virus, Humanity on earth is wiped out. 2. The "Agency Futurist Enclave" that Mezner worked for before Dark Sector escape the technocyte apocalypse and retreat to a very basic LEO station. 3. Many (hundreds, thousands of) years pass as the AFE research the virus and the results of it (Notably the living metal it produces) 4. Over this period AFE develop 'Morphics' from the technocyte-produced "living metal" and eventually 'Forma' and augment their bodies with it as they go to extend their lifespan. 5. Once they are functionally immortal they start to research genetic engineering techniques to re-create humanity to their own design 6. To their human subjects their gold bodies lead to the name Oro(Gold) Kin(People) 7. The vassal humanity of the Orokin Empire (Empire lead by the Orokin not _of_ the Orokin) grow into an idealized version of the 20th century vision of "the future" With their own human military However _everyone_ answers to and worships the Orokin. 8. The Solar Rail network is designed by the Orokin, eventually leading out of the system. 9. The Sentients system is discovered, they are aliens not AIs, nor created by the Orokin. 10. Orokin tech is turned against the human military so the only way to fight becomes using chemical projectile weapons and vac-suits containing "zero tech" 11. The Orokin ponder using void-tainted rejects as "smart bombs" against the Sentients. This works much better than expected (Excal Codex). 12. The Void-power protects the specially designed suits from Sentient control. The Suits draw on the tech that the AFE used thousands of years ago, An augumented human is made to oversee them. 13. The Orokin start trying to make more of these "Tenno" (After the suited agent who worked for them before the fall of the Earth) and turn them into a fighting force (Ember Codex). 14. The Tenno begin to win the War for the Orokin (Mag Codex) 15. The Orokin become a little worried about these super-beings they have created. Given their power and their exposure to the deeper secrets of Orokin technology, they worry about being usurped. 16. Returning back to the old-earth Technocyte virus the Orokin create a new strain of the virus that will not attack their tech. Flesh is fed to this virus to create Lephantis and other types of infestation (Ancients) to use against the Sentients _and_ the Tenno relying on their neural sentry tech to keep the Infestation under control 17. The Tenno find out about this, in an almighty push, win the war early and plan to eliminate the Orokin before they can release the Infestation. 18. The Old War ends and the Tenno wipe out all Orokin (Stalker codex) 19. Some of the Infestation is released (but not Lephantis) The Tenno begin to hunt it down. 20. Time passes as the Tenno work to wipe our the infestation (Ether Blades blurb) the formerly ruled humans begin to depend on the Tenno 21. Orokin materials become scare, the Tenno mostly swap to forma/Orokin-cells light versions of Warframes. 21. The Tenno wipe the infestation off the map but fail to discover Lephantis (It was created to fight in the Old War but never deployed). They decide that if they are not careful they will become just like the Orokin, ruling over humanity. So they decide to sleep unless there is a big enough threat, leaving the humans to rule themselves. 22. Lephantis slowly matures and is the source of all the infestation on the current map. 23. Humanity struggles and over time wars and splits into the Grinner and the Corpus as dominant factions.
