avinity8
Right but they have to pay for stuff like... the building they are in, the electricity, the water, all the those seats, the vacuums, etc, etc. They just hired a bunch of people for the PS4 launch, how much extra money to they have to spend on this game? I think they should have a sub service for folks that want servers but that will split the player base. They have to go all they way or not. Maybe after some time has passed and they have a steady stream that they can count on. How many other companies pay for the same stuff?! And still have dedicated servers. Seems like you're trying to make them seem special, which they're not. IMO, we don't need dedicated srvs since overall the game runs fine. But if we did, they easily have the money, don't fool yourself. Also, not many companies have both positions that both Rebecca and Megan have. Most small companies just wrap those two positions into one for one person to handle. They obviously have the extra cheddar to employ both ladies. Most small companies don't have an art department like DE's. DE has some great artist, those guys aren't cheap. They've redrawn so many mods numerous times over the last couple months. Mods that didn't even need new artwork but got some for the heck of it. That requires an artist being paid, splurge. Etc etc. Tired of people of this site always acting like DE is a struggling 3rd world company, Lmao Once again, no to Dedicated srvs, we'll only foot the cost and an unneeded cost at that. edit: - also what others have mention about the alienation. Would just reduce the communities population. Edited March 28, 2014 by avinity8
RoboDoge
Valve rents out servers through Steam, but that would alienate people who don't use Steam, or those who play on PS4. DE could rent/make some deal with Sony, but god knows how would that reflect on the game.

You know you just pointed out all the stuff they are spending money on that probably is the reason we dont have dedicated servers, right? Likely not many. You know I just pointed out all the stuff that relates to generally any other gaming company with dedicated servers too. Also, take into consideration, 'private' investors and silent partners etc. As someone else mention, royalties and other stuff form other games they've helped on. Again, they're not at anymore of a financial disadvantage than other companies with dedicated srvs.
Mak_Gohae
Likely not many. If it's likely not many it should be easy to post several examples, riiiiiiight? STARSBarry
there already gonna be hosting planetary stations for us to talk to soon enough... but I think this would take alot more money to pull off in the long run.
CryoClaw
It would definitely be awesome... I hate it when the whole clan is in the dojo and the host leaves...
Aggh
I don't see how that is relevant. Hawken is F2P and has dedicated servers. Hawken can only dream of Warframe's concurrent player numbers and adhesive isn't self publishing. Likely not many. Most dev studios sell the IP rights to their game (which is a nice bit of money before retail sales) and publishers (especially if it's a big name publisher) often front server costs :| Edited March 28, 2014 by Aggh

If all video game companies needed to be totally self sufficient was "royalties" why do they keep going for investors? First part you need to put thought into it. Self sufficient isn't the sole goal of the corporate world, there's a thing called 'profit' and most people want as much as they can get. Your argument is futile because that's like asking why do millionaires and billionaires seek investing on a daily/weekly basis. Why spend your own money when you could spend others... DeadX65
dedicated servers would solve a host of bugs due to the hosting system. IF it was optional, where you could either go with logging into a server or continue with the host system or even a sub based server system. host system is fine solo. it's when you go with one or more glitches start appearing. skills don't work properly, sentinals flake out, dc's and client crashes trash everything thus gained. so a combo of both would be more practical.
