Question

Posted

I have a Frost Prime, i use him for Defense and mobile defense

I hate Freeze, it never gets used. I rather put a Continuity or Steelfiber in that slot over it.

So ive been tempted to drop a Scratch Polarity in favor of something else.

I dont SOLELY spec for Snow Globe, i love Icewave, and Avalanche too.

My debate is im torn between formaing the slot to a diferrent polarity or to remove the polarity and replace it with nothing.

I wanted to get input from other Frost players (and of their builds) before i take an ax to a Scratch.

to be honest, even if you change the polarity its not like you can never put the ability back in, also the benefit from using the "scratch" slot for the first ability is 1 mod capacity..... yeah

so i am better off  with ANY other polarity in that slot to support corrupted builds.

Well then, time to relevel my frost

Personally, I usually retain the scratch even if I don't use all the abilities. (I pay the penalty of putting another mod with non-matching polarity). Keep in mind that ABILTIIES CAN CHANGE.   and sometimes quite drastically. (since you are frost user, I don't really have to drive this point home).

Have you forma-ed all the neutral slots? iirc, frames will usually get surplus mod capacity after formaing a few neutral slots. There may be no need to change any of the current slots to begin with.

And also, is your aura slot matching as well? a full matching aura gains 7 mod points, which is equivalent to savings of a polarity matched 14 point mod (which is few, and may already be sitting on slots with matched polarity)

Just the Aura to take Energy Siphon.

Vitality

Stretch

Intensify

Flow

Streamline

are the 'core' mods that are in. Freeze regularly gets changed with Continuity, Steel fiber, or Blind Rage. So i was still up in the air with the next slot to formal. Because no matter what mod is in Freeze's slot, its going to cost me more.

I use a Frost with 3 ability slots. I overrid one ability polarity into something more useful. Though, I use Freeze over Ice Wave since I don't think Frost is any good at dealing damage. Cold damage is pretty ineffective.

But, whenever I want to use all 4 abilities of Frost I just equip Freeze onto an empty slot. Those 5 mod capacity is nothing I can't handle. What I am saying is there is no need to half the mod cost of every ability so I say go for it as long as you have one empty slot in case you change your mind.

Here's my input, as a fellow Frost Prime user:

The default range on Snow Globe is perfect except on on the Grineer Asteroid Defense missions, where you must increase the range of the Globe with Stretch alone. Furthermore, the higher the level of the enemies, the more you rely on Power Strength and Efficiency and the less you rely on Duration.

As such, a combination of Blind Rage and Fleeting Expertise (which takes up the "-" polarity slot) should be enough, and the two "D" polarities should be taken up by Redirection and Vitality/Steel Fiber. This should fill up all the slots, assuming you equip all four of his abilities. This build actually complements his other abilities since they don't necessarily rely on Power Range or Duration.

EDIT: I will clarify by saying that this build is meant more for the later level planets, Tower III Void missions, and high level, long-term Defense/Survival missions.

Oh, another thing worth noting: DE will eventually implement the use of universal abilities across the Warframes. This will probably change gameplay significantly and further increase customization, as different abilities will probably synergize with different respective intentions (e.g. Power Duration versus Power Strength).
