Local Play

Okay, so apparently this is a big thing. Local play should be possible, and is. I've done it myself, which is what makes this all the more interesting-- if infuriating.

Starting from the obvious point, me and a fellow player are put under constraints that make it so we have to play on the same internet connection. This itself isn't a problem, as we've played together with just the two of us before. What makes this interesting is that it's unreliable in its consistency. Often do we find ourselves unable to play with one another for an undefined reason.

This in the air, it's clearly not that our router(s), computers, or I.S.P. do not support U.P.n.P, as it does occasionally let us two play together. What catches my interest even further, is that if we have a third player that's hosting-- to be specific, a player that's not in the local network is hosting-- both of us can join the session and play as if nothing is off.

I've changed the ports the game's tried using(restarting the game to let the ports update), swapped between the routers we have several times, and have tried with the other local player hosting, and myself hosting. When the game isn't in the heart of letting us play with just the two of us, it's not letting us play without the third, non-local player.

Every time we try joining, we either get the "Session is unavailable" or "Failed to join session" messages.

I hope this is clear enough on the issue.

Have you tried using a proxy so that it looks like one of you is using a different network?

While I like the idea, I've looked into proxies before I ever started playing the game, and all of the ones I could find weren't one-time charges, or were more expensive than could be afforded by us.

While it could work, it's not a feasable method for us unless there's a free-source proxy I couldn't manage to find.

Proxy would mean VPN, of which there are quite a few free clients out there. Unfortunately the problem you're going to run into regardless of any of that is that Warframe (and most any modern online multiplayer shooter) doesn't operate locally, and you probably don't have the bandwidth to run multiple instances of the game that communicate with the main server. No, not running the game on some other server, but standard P2P doesn't magically recognize people in the same LAN and attempt to operate solely on it. It will still send outbound and receive inbound data no matter how local you are.

Similar problem here. I'm living in a city with almost 5 million people in it. Internet providers give us "gray" IPs - IP that is shared among lots and lots of people, even those who use different provider = Giant local net. I invited my IRL friends in game, but I can't play with them (or they with each other) due to "gray" IP, Buying normal IP from provider to use it in just a single game with that problem is not a good option.

A lot of the game runs client-side, so the issue you're talking about is minimal-- if not for the fact the I.S.P. we go through doesn't provide the connection speeds we're paying for-- and even then, with six megs download and one meg upload a second speed(though we'll say ~20% of that to compare to what we're actually proveded), sending all the appropriate data shouldn't be too harsh on the network.

It's not the fastest connection ever, I'm aware, and our I.S.P. sucks, but there are no other options; it's the only I.S.P. in the area.

i think i am having a similar issue, my apt complex has us going through their own internet called bloom (isp=comcast). Whilst my connection seems to be fine for xbox live ive had an infinite amount of issues with games on the pc. Tried forwarding for warframe and it accomplishes nothing. Getting my own connection is not even permitted by the complex, thusly i cannot escape the large local "net" they have estalblished. If you make any progress at all, id love to hear it, basically cannot play this game much (when i host the lag is terrible, and i get kicked from joined matches frequently) until i either move or switch complexes. best of luck to you
