Tombob
i joined warframe not too long ago, i really enjoyed it, good game play, nice mechanics interesting progression (at least as far as i have seen) so i decided to support the developers and bought some cosmetic stuff like i like to do with quality free to play games that i enjoy (have been 3 so far). the problem begins when you HAVE to pay real money for to avoid intentional progression blocks... like the horrible horrible idea to set the max frames number to 2, and have not way to unlock more lots with ingame currency, this is a cheap tactic, that will hurt the developer wallets more then it will force players to pay them. every free to play that has been sucssesful for a long period of time had a fair buisness model that didnt force people that never wanted to pay a cent for the game feel like they are being denyed content, while giving people who do decide to support the developers their money worth in more enjoying the game they play. its this part the makes a good prospect and turns it into a long term sucssusful game. which is obviously win win for everyone, the people who pay, those who dont, and the developes themselves. if they stick to cosmetic payed content only they will have a good chance to stand the test of time, anything less will be a Precedent
frostycmc
You realize trading is a thing now, right? If you're willing to farm and sell rare mods, you really don't have to pay a dime. Edited March 30, 2014 by frostycmc
KingTaro
Nowadays, you can earn platinum ingame by trading stuff you got through gameplay. A lot of mods that you can farm can be sold for 5p and some even go 10 to 20p.
Alighierian
I'll tell you something even more fun. technically you can get everything but sentinel cosmetic stuff, syndanas, immortal skins and such without even trading once. yes, you obviously won't be able to keep it all, but there is no piece of equipment you cannot attain with normal old fashioned grinding. that alone already makes it pretty fair. and with a bit of trading you can easily get enough plat for more weapon / frame slots. .Absolute.
How have you not noticed the TRADING tab in chat? You're not forced to buy plat.. Edited March 30, 2014 by Absolute_ITI

TioMegaManX
How about you all stop telling a new player to trade stuff for plat? New players have nothing to offer for sell Right now only veterans and Prime Access players have something to trade or sell, I have checked the Trade channel for a while now and everyone has the same stuff and are unable to buy, sell or trade what they need thanks to the latest nerf in drop tables. New players have nothing to offer for sell So you magically got all your items 1 day when you logged in? Unless you bought your plat with actual money? we WORKED for it. Athros
Define this 'intentional progression blocks'. All I can see is just convenience blocks, as you can progress further anyway AND getting almost everything in game WITHOUT spending any real life cash, although with longer grind. (whether you buy plat or not, the grind is still there.) The only important plat-buyable item is slots, and you can easily workaround it. Need a slot for a new frame? Sell the least used, maxed frame you have. Need a slot for a new weapon? Sell the least used, maxed weapon you have. That way, every mastery points for every item you have squeezed out to get you progressing, and in the mean time you get credits surplus, even though you can't kept them all. IDK about you, but progression is not the same with 'collect all the item'. (FYI, to this day, I haven't even bought any single plat since the first time I played back from CB phase. No, not even when I get those shiny 75% discount coupon.) Edited March 30, 2014 by Athros
(PSN)TheShinigamiGod
Two is enough slot if you have Loki you will not have need for other frames. Loki Master Race!!!! Jk (Loki is awesome though) But seriously it is a downer just go to recruiting tab and join the peoples void missions you might get lucky and get the prime parts that people are willing to pay plat for. Tiqalicious
You get enough plat at the start of the game to buy more slots. You could also sell a frame if you're hell bent on trying out something different.
BlueQuail
Everything is free except for inventory slots and some cosmetics and that's much better than "better pots" or "revives".
Ritchel
if you play long enough you will get rare mods and prime parts and make you buy all what you desire with plats, its just that you are new or doesnt have alot of time to play and you are just frustrated. i hope you got my point
Bearssi
So you decided to use platinum for cosmetic stuff before checking what else it is used for and you are not willing to use money on a game you like. Thats what i understood from OP. Most other games take progression from gear and player character performance. In Warframe and similar games the player progresses by learning and a bit with rng/mods. Warframes and weapons can be considered cosmetic also in a sense that they change your gameplay to completely different styles. The slots with platinum reflects this note. NoXHeart
I really don't understand why people keep complaining about the current monetary system, you can't buy anything with platinum that has a statistical benefit that somebody else couldn't just earn on their own. Its not like some other games that completely block your progress until you either wait the alotted time or spend money, you can still play with your old frames and equipment until your new ones are done. Not every game can survive on selling nothing but cosmetic items, and quite frankly I've seen much MUCH worse business models, like just about every game published by a certain company. IGiveBadAdvice
All you really need is Excalibur. It's a great frame, it just needs to be upgraded. If you're having real trouble getting past certain parts, don't worry, you can ask for someone to taxi you to Ambulas on Pluto. Killing him gives you Excalibur parts. If you collect all three and build them with the blueprint, you'll get a second Excalibur, and you can combine them with another blueprint to get the Excalibur Prime. Livin' it up to your username, eh? Disregard his post, Excalibur Prime only acquirable through Founder Program, which ended up many months ago and cannot be acquired again. Bloodywing
You have access to all the game's content, albeit, not right away. There is no content being denied from players. They even give you starter plat to spend on your liking. I suggest to spend it on slots to start you off. You also get free mods, alt helms from alerts and potatoes in both alerts and invasions. Also, tune in every week for Primetime for some plat giveaways. Watch out for contests, they host them every week as well. Trading is also another option to earn some plat. If thats not fair for free players, I don't know what is. Everything can be earned in Warframe, you just have to work for it. Hope this helps to clear things up a bit and good luck on your Warframe journey.
