Helios Use Modification Needed.

As the title says...

Though Investigator has been improved, it has some inherent issues that no amount of improvement will ever resolve.

Its' function is to scan items into a codex that:

Has a finite number of entries.

Not everyone cares about.

 

That's before the fact that Investigator does a bad job of handling this function (prioritizes containers, wastes scans on completed items).

 

I propose that an Enemy and Loot Radar be put in its' place. This will give Helios an ability that is endlessly useful in the field while living up to its' name.

The current Investigator is a better candidate for a Sentinel generic ability mod akin to Coolant Leak or Sanctuary as it's usefulness is temporary and occasional in the best of circumstances.

 

i.e.;Something that can be removed as opposed to moth-balling the entire Sentinel.

 

It is also my opinion that Vaccuum is another ability that would do best in the Sentinel generic ability pool, but have no idea what would go into it's place for Carrier.

I say this because Carrier is currently the most popular Sentinel and this is due, primarily, to the QoL improvement Vaccuum presents.

Vaccuum, in it's current iteration discourages diversity.

A NPC radar would be by far a more useful ability. +1 I hope DE at least consider this as an option.

Thanks to both of you and anyone who upvotes the idea.

DE has shown they listen when we use one voice and the request makes sense.

Helios is not marketable, imo, in it's current form.

I feel this will help resolve that.

 

I hope DE sees this and considers the idea.

 The point is solid, there just really isn't much use for investigator.  It isn't even good enough at the job.  It is kind of funny as a sentinel and in general the Helios sentinel looks pretty good, but I doubt anyone really keeps investigator on it, even if they still need to take a lot of scans.

 

 As for the powers like Vacuum.  The common pool of mods might be great, but it might be a bit far.  I would prefer that most of the powers be sort of slightly shared.  Not common pool so every sentinel can use them, but more each power can be used by two or three sentinels only.  For example, Deathcube and Helios have lenses in them, they both should be able to use vaporize basically.

 

 Keep the powers slightly limited, but give us players a bit more choice about which sentinel we get to use because we aren't limited to one just because of the power we chose.

 

 Of course if we do get lucky and a "common pool" of powers is formed, perhaps it would be best to dedicate a mod slot for those common pool mods so that each sentinel can only equip one of those powers at a time.

That's a thought.

The big deals to me:

Figure out a way to make Helios not be a paperweight. The deconstructor concept is nifty but the Sentinel itself is useless as it brings no advantages to the table compared to Wyrm, Shade, or Carrier.

 

Diversify skills so that Carrier isn't the constant 'go to' due to Quality of Life advantages. I detest having to go run in circles to pick stuff up. I'd rather have a choice of sentinels as opposed to just Carrier because now I'm spoiled.

I agree that the helios is useless to scan. It take more than 15 seconds to scan even one object lying motionless. I don't even talk about moving enemies that moves and dies quicker that you could see in most case. The ones for which scanning is very hard and an automated help would've been useful.

 

I don't mind the helios using all 100 scanner charges in one mission. I would only use it when i want to scan. But make it scan faster, scanning only consoles when you stay idle is useless.

The goal of my post isn't to improve it's scanning ability.

It's to highlight the fact that no matter how good it's scanning ability becomes, it will still not be a marketable item.

The scanning ability need to be changed to something altogether different and the codex scanner moved to the status of a general use mod.

It's not a function that will see regular use.

As it stands now.. neither will Helios.

yeah, and you can't even build that sentinel for it's weapon as it is the only one who can use it :( At 10m range it's not comparable to the other sentinels, so in a month we won't see any Helios around, just wait till people farm it to 30 for mastery and throw it away.

 

I too woudl liek to see some kind of vacuum generic mod for sentinels, for QoL reasons. Maybe make the Carrier evne better at vacuuming, or add other advantages to it so it's not mothballed by then, either ?
