Mr. Sinclair or if I can call you Steve. :)

Some time ago you shared the information that you liked an old movie "The Last Star Fighter" correct?

Well I'm also a fan of the movie and I remembered that there was an evil character named Lord Kril.

http://thelaststarfighter.wikia.com/wiki/Lord_Kril - this guy. :P

My question is - is Lech Kril named after that character? :D

Thank you for your time. :)

:) No, but I wouldn't rule out subconscious influence! Man the CG in that movie so cringy and good. And the eye ball cleaning scene - love it!

Sometimes I feel the CG and innovative designs were better back then than they are now.

Everything is too plastic/rubbery too with the CGI of today.

'Greetings Starfighter! You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada!'

OMG THEMEMORIES!

Death Blossom for the WIN!

Fewer options at the time, so people went for 'quality' over 'quantity'.

The Gunstar model is one of the BEST designed actual combat spacecraft I have seen in a movie.

(Edit) I had a friend who swore off video games after seeing that movie. He was so good at them he was afraid aliens would come and snatch him. lol.

Possibly because CG now is too focused on being realistic and trying to fit in. CG back then didn't really try, and sometimes I think it was better for it.

I definitely think CG is too 'try hard' these days.

Easy example. SW's sequels compared to the prequels. In my opinion the CG in the sequels are better than the prequels. Ep 1 is a bit of both worlds and doesn't have as much bad CG as there's definitely a mix. Ep 2/3 went full blown though.

And for environments? Yes some look stunning but too much makes it more unrealistic than realistic. I'm sure it doesn't help the atmosphere for actors when they're stuck in a green room for 75% of the movie.

"Sir! Tenno skoom have breached the inner defenses! Our patrols are dying! What do we do!"

*wheeeeeeeew*  "We die."

I heard Sir Ian broke down during the filming of The Hobbit after so many greenscreen takes and proxy actors. Saying something like "I didn't become an actor for this!"

I agree.  The Gunstar is such a cool design. Having a second officer on board to help fly the thing just makes sense... the turreted weapons covering every side acknowledge that space is a 3D combat environment... Even the proportion of cockpit to hull makes more sense than most mosquito-thin sci fi fighters.

Not surprised. Definitely wouldn't disagree with him.

Watching the most recent ones is like watching people doing stuff in front of green screens...

True story. He was scared out of his mind at that point. It was only after seeing the final product that he really got over it. And they're really one of the few movies that got CGI right. Marvel's managed to get it right as well in most cases but not always.

one edit however...It wasnt The Hobbit...it was LOTR!!!

That's no screwing around a terrifying tale from anyone who understands acting in general.

As for the start of this thread.

I am so happy to find fellow fans of that movie that was one of my favorites as a kid.

Ah, thanks. I'll have to look it up again. I remember reading it the first time and really feeling for him (and the others who have to deal with it).

TLS was an amazing movie though. I've been scared to re-watch it in case my nostalgia goggles have lied to me too much but I might do it anyway.
