afaik "Burst dmg" is the one you make with 1 clip, while "Sustained dmg" is the one you make in a determinate amount of time and factoring reloads

(if you are referring to the loads of dmg charts/tables we have here and there on the internet)

Sustained generally refers to persistant overall DPS, which should take into account your mag capacity and reload speed in addition to all the important other factors like fire rate and damage.

Its kind of confusing because some people use DPS interchangeably with burst damage and some with sustained since they factor in reload times so two people get different numbers for the same build.

I always have to ask for explanations so it can be normalized to compare apples to apples or do the numbers myself.

Burst DPS = (Damage per shot * clip size) / (time to empty the magazine)
Sustained DPS =
(Damage per shot * clip size) / (time to empty the magazine + reload time)

I understand what it contains but does someone have a formula to show me how it does less than burst?

It doesn't necessarily do less, Burst DPS just does its damage within a single shot or magazine (such as sniper rifles and bows) instead of multiple continuous shots in the same amount of time. Not really at all related. These are factored according to the weapon itself, as sustained DPS isn't really an important stat for semi auto weapons.
