The Tower 1 Key Chain?

I've been doing a lot of T1 exterminates lately, and I've noticed that when I get a T1 key as a reward, it has literally always been a T1 Mobile Defense key.  Is this just an astonishing coincidence, or does each T1 tower drop the keys of another one, forming a chain?  If so, how exactly does that chain go (and which T1 key drops exterminate keys most/all of the time?)

The tier depends on the rank of the mission you get it from, but type is random. It's just a coincidence.

Well, T2 and T3 missions no longer have keys on their tables.

I think there was some coding that got messed up when they changed how the keys were distributed in T1. Likewise I have only gotten T1 mobile defense keys from doing T1 exterminate when keys do drop (occasionally another T1 exterminate but that is very rare). Same happens when I do T1 defense for fun but I get captures and defense keys about the same amount of time.

 

I don't really complain about it though since if you run with friends you're constantly duplicating T1 keys whenever you get them as rewards.
