Something Missing In Melee 2.0... Interrupt?

In the dev stream it was asked whether we would be able to withstand a heavy unit's ground slam attack with our melee weapon...   And the answer was "no", the best we could do was use the Reflection mod it so that they got knocked down too. Which we can already accomplish.

But my thinking here is, that still leaves you extremely vulnerable. The heavy that slammed you might get knocked down, but his 10 friends are still up and shooting at you while you recover. And it didn't really seem to add much interaction to melee units in general attacking you. It's still just a matter of them running up to you, absorbing their strike, then chopping on them.

Many other games with melee combat have what's called an interrupt. If you perform an interrupt move just as an enemy is winding up their attack, then their attack is negated and you open a window of opportunity to do something bad to them.  Would Warframe's Melee 2.0 be better if it had one?

What:

Character holds their weapon in right hand off to the side, turns their body to the right, then pivots through a backhand strike delivered with the left arm.

How:

While holding Block, press Attack to perform an interrupt

Result:

Enemies that are caught in the middle of performing an attack are knocked back a step and briefly stunned, similarly to the Impact status proc. Their attack is negated and its cooldown wasted.  Enemies can only be interrupted every few seconds (5?), and if they weren't in the middle of performing a move then the interrupt doesn't stagger them.

The ground slam isn't an attack as I understand it, it's an ability.  It could be potentially interrupted mid-cast with a stagger though.

unfortunatly its an ability that grants knock down resistance once they start it it will finish.

did you watch the whole stream?

did you hear or see the parry system? scott parried an enemies attack and then did an instant finisher move.
