Melee 2.0 Control Concern

Based on what I saw in the recent dev stream, I have a concern regarding key bindings. Specifically, Mouse 1 as channeling and E as attack.

E as melee attack makes sense when you're holding a gun, but when you go all-out melee? That comes off as counter-intuitive to me. It would make MUCH more sense to flip those two around.

If the controls aren't changing, will there be a way to flip them WITHOUT going into options and outright rebinding those two keys every time we switch between guns and melee?

The control layout is pretty cluttered as it is, so I'm personally glad they decided to make an entirely new melee oriented configuration.

I still think they should play around with different input combinations relative to combos though, and maybe redo bindings so there are more context sensitive inputs as to maintain fluidity of gameplay.

I believe they said that RMB would be the same as E when the melee weapon is equipped. A Completely separate, rebindable control.

Which seems kind of weird. You would expect LMB to be the attack and RMB to be the focus. It's just weird that one of three weapons uses the aim button for attack and the attack button for charging up.

How is it counter-intuitive if the same key continues to perform the same function? Nitpicking...nevermind me. Regardless, yes to custom key bindings on melee mode. Of course.

Nope. RMB will block/parry. Wich actually makes perfect sense to me since it is what you will want to do between attack routines. I anticipate using it much more often than the focus mode. Your melee attack key (default E) is the same. LMB is focus toggle.

I'm fairly sure there will be two separate control schemes for dedicated melee and the standard format, so rebinding shouldn't be a problem.

I hope so because when you have your melee weapon out E makes sense to use for channeling imo and mouse 1 to strike

Personally I like the idea of keeping melee bound to E,

HOWEVER! I also feel there should be some form of keybind options the player can mess with if they like.

For instance:

(By default)

    "Quick Melee: E"

    "Active Melee attack: E"

    "Channel: LMB"

    "Block: RMB"

Then if you wish you can remap the buttons any which way you like.

In the poster's case:

    "Quick Melee: E"

    "Active Melee attack: LMB"

    "Channel: E"

    "Block: RMB"

This way the way the system is as planned will remain but those who don't like it can have it the way they like~
