[Experienced Torid Users] What Am I Supposed To Do With The Torid?!

Question

I just got my Torid fresh out from the foundry a couple of minutes ago and I honestly didn't know what to expect from the gun because even after watching gameplay videos of this weird weapon, I still don't know what I'm supposed to do with it.

My first impressions of this weapon is really, really weird (Torid is only at rank 3 atm).

Am I supposed to aim and kill the enemies with the grenades like a normal gun or shoot it randomly around me and kill the enemies with the gas cloud? I get that mine is still low ranked and un-modded but the results have been underwhelming from my first impressions.

I got it simply because I like grenade launchers and similar weapons like the Ignis. Right now all I see is a mix between my beloved Penta and Embolist but an rather underwhelming combination for now at least. I don't want the weapon to go to waste but I honestly don't know what to make out it...

It's definitely an acquired taste, not for everyone type of weapon. For full effect, yes, hit the enemy directly. 2/3 of the damage is from the gas cloud. Many, many people are not a fan of the weapon. I ,however, am but it took some getting use to. It's nice for narrow hallways as a crowd control type of weapon, also for defense, but other then for fun (if you like it) you will not be racking up a lot of kills with it compared to most guns that's for sure.

I modded mine for full damage. I got used to the slow fire rate and slow reload but if you can't mod for those.

I mainly use it with Saryn. Throw down a molt, fire around it and watch enemies run towards their gas filled death. Or fire a few shots on them with a venom or two and you are looking at some insane DoT, it's a nice combo for bosses.

I primarily use it for defense missions.

Preferably, get to some harder to reach high ground and "mine" the points where enemies approach from.

As an AOE, it scales better than other weapon types as level goes higher. And the stacking from multiple AOE helps (e.g. 2 grenade clouds instead of 1 will "double" the damage).

I have not tried it since damage 2.0, but adding cold or other status effects may also act as a limited form of CC, such that even if the clouds do not kill the enemies outright, it will slow them down enough for them to be killed via other means.

Some stuff that synergizes well with Torid:

- Vauban (mentioned above. Not only vortex, which synergizes well with everything, but even bastille, as the edge of the field can be "mined" with Torid, which last over time, making it more effective than single-fire weapons ).

- Nyx. Chaos keeps enemies engaged (usually in small groups). Just add Torid cloud to the party.

- as mentioned, lure types like Loki's Decoy and Saryn's molt can be used as poison points as well.

I definitely want to revisit this weapon, as it is unique, unlike other weapon types which more or less have similar replacements.

So the Torid is one of those weapons that require a lot of love to make it shine, eh? Sounds like a good challenge.

It so happens that Saryn is all I'm using lately and the Penta has been killing my Saryn often so the Torid would make a good alternative but it's usefulness is best only against Infested? I don't mind doing a support role so if that's what this weapon is most useful for, I can see myself building a Venom build for Saryn.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of build do you use for the Torid?

I didn't notice it when I used the Torid since I was moving around a lot, but do the gas clouds have a timer on them or do they last indefinitely?

It's pretty good as a an Area denial weapon (Hit near enemies in cover or in the path of melee attackers to flush them out or kill them), a Kite gun (Fire it into the ground as you lead a pack of melee attackers around, running all of them through the cloud) or as a Headshot/Heavy Destroyer Gun (The grenade does massive damage on impact and the gas cloud sticks to enemies, causing them to take insane levels of damage if the gas 'sticks' to their head).

I use my Torid as more of a support weapon, with my Secondary being something with high damage output to deal with light packs or scattered enemies that the Torid can't handle as well.

General build is whatever elementals I need for what I'm fighting, Multishot, Serration, Reload Speed and Fire Rate. Torid can also work with Heavy Caliber, though it loses it's 'Headshot Build' use and gains more AoE control instead. Fire Rate and Reload Speed are entirely optional, I just prefer to run with them to cover the aformentioned weakness with the Torid and dealing with spread out enemies easier.

The wiki also states that the gas clouds will stick to any surface like Vauban's abilities. Does that mean the clouds will stick on to any enemies I target and they will bring the clouds along with them wherever they go?
