Warframe Storyline?

By the end of Warframe's beta stages, implying there will be one - Will it follow some type of storyline? And if it does, will it follow its predecessor, Dark Sector?

Or is Warframe just going to stay as it is, just more Frames and Weapons and a few enemies here and there?

(No A******-ishness intended.)

You are a humble man known as Excalibur Hayden Horatio Tenno and your mission is a simple one... you must traverse across planets, galaxies and even the universe itself to find the man who committed the most vile, despicable act imaginable... a monster known as Captain Vor who stole your special golden key from you while you were in cryosleep, a key so powerful and enigmatic that it is said to open the door to the secret of life itself.

Along the way you will make many friends and many more enemies. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll stab a genetically engineered space monster in the neck with a sword and watch it bleed onto your shoes. But in the end you may well find that the secret to life itself was inside you all along.

There is as much, or little story as you desire.

For example, one can see the different factions as the result of polarizing corporations, to such a point of brand loyalty, excessive amounts of time, and space, they separated into differing species. Evidenced by the missions in some cases being akin to corporate espionage, and the fact that you aren't an army, but more of special agents.

Another example would be the Lotus, a very ambiguous character that controls the Tenno, but gives no information about itself.

It's all up to you.

Just add some Michael Bay, And bam, Movie of the Year.

@Lunamaniac: To say Dark Souls has no story is inaccurate. It is actually very deep and complete and compared to Warframe very present and accessible. Dark Souls tells it's story through Cut Scenes, NPC dialogues and through Lore blurbs on equipment. Warframe does all of the aforementioned, but significantly less and is more obscure and incomplete. Fore example, NPC dialogues, Lotus, Stalker, Bosses.

Now Dark Souls is a complete game, and Warframe is open beta, so I do not disparage DE for not having worked it all out yet, but Warframe has not yet reached the story level of Dark Souls. Within the first twenty minutes I knew what I needed to do to End The Game in Dark Souls. Short of Killing all of the Grineer and Corpus, I do not know yet what I am doing, beyond maintaining the balance in Warframe.

In time, this will be fleshed out, and DE will decide how much of Dark Sector's story will merge with Warframe, and how much they will reveal to us, but for now, DE is still building out the beta into a fully featured game, Lore et al.

@BP_Nocturnal: Dark Sector is officially recognized by DE as being linked to Warframe. They have said conflicting things in various Dev Streams as to how much and what specifically from Dark Sector crosses over. For now Warframe, in practice is still a spiritual successor to Dark Sector, as every reference to Dark Sector still has little to no official narrative to support bridging the universes or addresses inconsistencies between the two properties.

Now having said that, I hope DE does establish a thoughtful narrative and cherry picks the best to filter through the minimal story method, i.e. Dark Souls style story telling, and once done focus on being free from that past. DE may or may not have painted themselves into a corner having decided to acknowledge Dark Sector, as fan pressure demanded, depending on how well they handle bridging the story. As is, most fan explanations run into many problems with inconsistencies. I would be pretty cool with letting most of the questions remain unanswered forever, lost in time and to the memory wipe. Focus on the setting as is, and bring on the new DE.

Whatever story we do get, I do hope it is more present than it is in its current state. At least create those hubs and have some more fleshed out NPC's to shed a little more light on the Warframe Universe as is. A market for Darvo who can wax poetic about his day in the Corpus exchange before he assigns the Tenno a special mission. Human Colonist, with some background on who, and what the Tenno are fighting for, assuming Lotus cares about the human colonist. etc etc etc.

It's like Dark Souls; there is no story.

partially this; warframe is a lot like a more speculation heavy dark souls storywise.

in both games theres story THERE but its all hidden in item descriptions, the set pieces, npc (as in boss/lotus) dialogue, the codex, and the like. a lot of its speculation and almost none of its laid right out for everybody.

this is is good because it lets players be as involved in the story as they want to be. if you dont care too much, you wont notice theres a story at all, and if you wanna find out about the story you get to hunt for information and form your own ideas about things. that way players dont get bored/overloaded with a ton of exposition if they didnt wanna see it anyways, and players who get deeply involved in story and lore get a sort of interactive storytelling experience.
