Warframe On Mac Os?

Tennos, a long time ago someone brought up the idea of warframe on macs. That idea was quickly shot down, citing reasons such as it is a waste of time because the coding would take so long and instead opted for the very similar ( albeit higher demand) code lines. However now PS4 has become a reality. And I am left with the question: is there going to be a Mac version?

Seeing as how most macs are anaemic and probably cant run even warframe, I;d recommend just building your own PC.  Mac gaming is a myth anywho, MacOS is for video editing only, and even then whatever you do on it can be accomplished on Windows.

no other games are availble for mac .. not even the popular well financed games i.e call of duty, battle field , assasins creed, none availble for mac ... so dont expect a gaming company with less then half of what the big guys have to code for mac when they havent

Unlikely. Macs are VERY underpowered when it comes to gaming... enough said really.

Tho, they can run Warframe.

But in the end, if you want gaming rig, you dont buy anything from Apple. If you are hipster and need looks, you buy their products.

You guys are forgetting: Apple controls the user experience. Their cert process makes Sony cert look like a fun sunshine playtime trip.

If they did make it for Mac, they'd have to wait multiple integers between updates(like, u12, u14, u18)... if they were allowed on there at all.

PS4 barely can, and XB1 has 50% less power than that.  So probably not.

Two statements that are false and to the OP , what does the PS4 have anything to do with a Mac? That's like saying " Now that my toaster makes toast , why can't my freezer?" .

Your freezer can make toast. Put the bread against the transfer coils on the back.

Titan Fall is coming to Mac, most likely

People really do need to educate themselves about Hardware/Software that isn't strictly Windows.

Although to the point. As I've said it many times. The primary issue is in the graphics/game API that DE used to build Warframe (which is a result of their Evolution Engine). Warframe is a creature of DirectX, where Mac OSX (and Linux) are purely OpenGL. In order to bring a Warframe port to Mac OSX (Linux) it would have either be rebuilt in OpenGL or use a wrapper to translate the DirectX API calls.

Rebuilding is a non-starter. To begin with the game is still being written and adding a ground level rewrite would bring any real development to a halt, and very likely set things back in major ways.

Using a wrapper maintained by a 3rd party porting company such as Aspyr or Transgaming is possible, but not while the game is unstable and actively being developed. Take a look at the mixed results people on Linux are having getting Warframe running under Wine. So this is a no-go until DE gets the game done and stable.

The reason why it got such a "fast" port to the Playstation 4 is because for the first time the two major consoles share the same base architecture as a typical PC. On top of that both use DirectX. Sony licenced a version. So you can see there all the stars start to align. PC standard architecture and hardware + DirectX APIs in the OS. Do the far less back breaking task of getting Warframe to play nice with the off shoot of FreeBSD that Sony's using, and done. Warframe Ported.

Now you can see the issues with that. It's not clean or perfect, and has its own unique problems and bugs. And that's going into an environment that's as close as you're going to get to a Windows driven PC without it being Microsoft.

Could DE port Warframe to Mac OSX? Yes.

Would it run fine? Very likely.

Will it happen any time in the near (1 to 2 year future)? Almost certainly no.

Will Warframe ever get a port to the WiiU? Nope, never. The PowerPC CPU shouts that down before you even look at the rest of the hardware there.

Oh, I seem to have you guys mixed up, I don't have a mac. I am also using a PC. However my friends (cough cough hipsters yes) are only allow macbooks because of reasons. PS4 does fine for warframe, and XB1 isn't offering a place. I only offered Mac as a choice since the coding is similar and its not a huge step to make it Mac-applicable as well.

On the other hand, creating servers for Macs is an entirely different concept. I will leave it to DE

A very fine explanation! Thank you very much
