Bigger Guns... {Artillary Arm Concept}

Hello!

I haven't posted here before, but I've been a big fan of the game for quite a while and sometimes do warm ups and such in the style of Warframe art before I paint on my own content.

That said I feel like there are some missed opportunities with larger equipment, maybe something that could be reviewed with the upcoming expansion past level 30 on each frame... but devoted to weapons.

I haven't named the sketch below really but here is nova carrying an artillery arm. Mobility would certainly be impacted but the weapon could be a removable device that you could drop in a mission when you've run it dry.

Enjoy and if enough people have an interest I'll take it past the sketch phase into something more developed.

Yeah clipping would definitely be an issue, but maybe it could lock out the fist/two handed weapons. Something to counter using an artillery weapon like losing all but a single melee or secondary weapon.

Thanks for the positive comments, I'm glad you like it :)

It seems more of something that an enemy would use, maybe a heavy grineer or even a boss. Things like this always get tricky when it comes to holding two handed and dual weilded weapons. Also datamasses and when you go down that you are forced to use a secondary. Nice concept though

What "expansion past 30" are you talking about? o.0 Not sure how that relates to "I want a megabuster"

I think it's called focus? It's something yet to be implemented in the game but from what i gather they will allow you to funnel experience that is currently being lost when playing a warframe at level 30 into a new ability. This ability to be some level of super attack or other ability that can be used once per mission sounds pretty powerful.

I had thought a bit when I was sketching that weapons could follow the same process, the difference being a graphical change or elemental improvement, maybe they physically scale up the arm to encompass more of the shoulder. Perhaps they can merge together to form a larger more powerful version than two separate but identical weapons (twin wraith vipers merged to one substantially op super viper for instance).

Or... maybe a mod could process the gun in the same visual sense. Such as a heavy caliber mod being applied to a weapon actually increasing the physical size of the barrel.

Just thoughts :)

Focus is going to give abilities to the player, not the frame. Ie. you can use it on any frame, at any time(with that limit of once/mission).

Great.

You know what? I'm right now drawing shoulder cannon. And here your post

Damn

This is amazing.

You inspired me, as well as a conversation with a friend that said why would you need an artillery device when you have molecular prime... The following sketch is for when molecular prime isn't enough :)

I think a style of weapons like this would probably resemble something almost like a Ceph weapon. For those that are unfimilar with the term "Ceph", Ceph is a alien race that is in a series of games called Crysis. Ceph weaponry is unique, other than being way overpowered.

The Reaper Cannon is basically a Alien Minigun, with a secondary mode of a single burst of consentrated bolts. But what makes the weapon unique is that the user's arm is partially enveloped in the weapon, literately, a Arm Cannon.

A weapon like this in Warframe would have some serious hurdles, such as making the reserve ammo to 0, making the player having to switch to another weapon. How powerful it is and whether it's explosive, fire, ice, poisin, or any of the other types. Closest in game, is General Ruk's Arm Cannon. I could see such a weapon being introduced, but it's going to take a lot of tweaking to make it work and not be OP.

  • 8 months later...

I like that minigun Zenn, that's pretty cool. I remember playing with the cryengine sandbox in the first crysis sandbox... I'd enjoy the tentacled tanks the aliens used and how they would fight most of all, but there were some slick designs, more than just the armor of course.

Also I've been playing but missing content from the forums for a while so I hope to throw up some more content over the next week.

Thanks for the comments guys! It's appreciated.
