Is The Melee Multiplier Working As Intended?

Recommended Posts

So I went to Ludi, Ceres to try out the fang prime and the build I was using, unequiped primary and secondary. Found one of the new mobs, the one that is only vulnerable to electric damage, I had none but being that the first time I went there I tought he just was more vulnerable to electric but I could yet damage him. I couldn't.

I was about to abort the mission until the idea of "how much can I increase the multiplier on my melee" came to my mind and I started spaming E on him.

This is what I got before I got bored.

I reached the 3.5 multiplier at ~250 hits. the x4.0 didn't came until ~1250 (don't have exact numbers due to the hit counter stepping up fast and he almost killed me on both increments for iron skin running out). There I stopped at ~2000 yet not x4.5.

What I did there, I don't believe can be replicated in a normal run.

Are the number of hits in order to reach the next multiplier alright? Is it working as intended?

Yeah, I'd also like an answer. I just though the multiplier capped at 2.5 or 3 because there's virtually no way to sustain a combo longer than that in normal gameplay.

From what I've heard from other players who have tested this more thoroughly, the damage multiplier on melee combos possesses a massive curve on it.  From what I remember, it is supposed to take somewhere around 3k hits to reach 4.5x, and upwards of 10k hits to reach 5x.  I would be surprised if there was an actual limit on it, but for all intents and purposes you're not going to ever get higher than 4.

There's literally no way to sustain that many hits in an average situation to merit having such a curve. You'd be hard pressed to even manage it on infestation survival.

This is working as intended.

You are not really supposed to get to 4x damage in a normal fight.

Think about it: 4x damage on every hit is Insane amounts of damage.

I think that a soft-cap around 2.5x damage is fine, seeing as that's where you get in most fights.

Remember, the combo bonus is just an extra incentive to go "full melee" rather than use quick strikes, even when you don't have a stance mod.
